I am seeing more and more posts, comments and personal ads here and a great many other places which say something like...
"Seeking a sub/slave."
Simple question, yet not....
What do you think is the difference is between them?
I'll let this one run a little while before adding my personal opinion...

Interesting opinion....and I do appreciate the input
Wikipedia thinks differently, however....
In many BDSM communities, there is a distinction between a submissive and a slave. In this context, a slave's goal is surrender and obedience. In contrast, a submissive tends to expect some gratification in return for his or her submission. Also from another site: leathernroses:

Granted that I'm well aware there are a great many "circles" of those practicing BDSM lifestyles (which I personally find a pity, as it keeps the lifestyles from having any sort of unity or defined culture ), with their own ideas and practices.
My main point is towards the several who come HERE to seek someone in the BDSM community asking for same, but feel to me as if they are a tad out of their element on this site. This being a great deal of members here simply "play" at the lifestyle, they are not immersed into it.Sex and Swinger site this may be, it is still geared mainly toward the vanilla realms.
Not that there are none whatsoever, simply that the numbers are lower than any number of sites geared towards that lifestyle directly. Especially since a few have recently been just throwing out "seeking a sub/slave" with abandon. I am deeply curious just to see how many really know exactly what it is that they are talking about, and those of us here who DO take it as seriously as it should be would prefer those kinds of terms be thrown about with recklessness, so as to not shed a bad light upon the rest of us as a whole. A personal peeve of mine ( and a great many others as well ) are those who talk about spanking, whipping, tying and worse like it's some easy to do thing and harmless. WRONG, it can be easily harmful and fatal and a great many will argue that point, with hospital data to back it up. And it's no secret many are posers or fakes, like any other sexual (or non ) topic on the entire internet.
And for those who seek a combination of both, I truly think they might fare better on some other directly applied site elsewhere. Need more proof? Not a problem...
Anyone join in here....Honestly tell me what the very first thought that comes into your head ( in a bondage or bdsm frame of mind ) when I say the word "submissive."
Ok, now tell me what your first thoughts are when I say the word "slave."
Let's see if my theory is correct, dont be shy, have your say. 
And like I say, it's just my personal opinion, but I know a great many are in agreement about these things.

There is a world of difference between a submissive and a slave, just as there is a world of difference between a Dom and a Master. While the element of total trust is still involved in either relationship, after having read your profile, I would think you more of a submissive than a slave. Most slaves do not have that cuddle and kiss option when a scene is completed. Having served as both throughout my 26 yrs in the lifestyle, I freely admit to prefer the submissive role over the slave role.
Dark Knight, you will find wannabes of both sides on this site as well as those that cater more to the lifestyle (ALT or Richard's Realm come to mind) Just like any garden, sometimes you have to pull a few weeds to find the rose!!

My opinion...
Both slave and sub are submissive; but to me a slave is more OWNED in more aspects. I think the dynamics are totally different, but being a switch the power exchange can be pretty much the same. I think there is a different level of control that is exercised between sub or slave partnerships. While a sub is submissive to a Dom, a slave is moreso "controlled" by a Master; even the language between the two is more power suggestive. Just my humble opinion.

Guess I aint the only old school thinking person rount cheer, the bulk of all the opinions seem to match in various ways...
Know what's kinda funny? Should a woman ask this question, I'd estimate at least half a dozen Doms to answer it...

I am not now, nor have I ever been, "slave material"... On the other hand I am an excellent, if slightly twisted and very unique, sub.
I have a very short list of "absolute no" things and I have to admit that the consequence of crossing the line with any of them is that I walk. They aren't "negotiable", they are not limits that I will allow to be pushed and I make that clear from the outset.
For me the difference between "slave" and "sub" is that the slave makes a choice to be "owned" while the sub makes a choice to temporarily cede "control" to someone else.

To me... someone who is a switch is someone who can be either Dominant or submissive depending entirely on the situation at hand and the preferences of the parties involved.
Outside of the parties and the relationship in question it isn't anyone else's business.
