most of Melbournes waterfront now is high priced skyscapers and penthouse style appartment blocks,looks like yuppyville to me.the harbour itself is full of fancy cruisers that cost more than most of us would make in two or three years...
and the beaches are full of rubbish.
before christmas when we went over to bring the new truck home,we drove into Melbourne over the westgate bridge,its a huge bridge that climbs up as high as a fairly large building itself and all you could see from the top of it was a cloud of smog hanging over the city. 
I wouldn't live there

you'd like a place called the Blue Mountains doc.thats in New SouthWales,on the mainland
or down at St Helens on the west coast of Tassie would be similar to what you are used to with-out the unbearable heat and over-priced living.
most two/three bedroom houses with ocean front views get rented out for around $120-$150 a week or buy them outright for approx $200 000.

I found a youtube clip I posted in the watering hole doc,I'm looking for someone who can convert it somehow so you can download it quicker to have a squizz at it
it shows a whole bunch of differant places in Tassie I didn't even know where on the net.some of the clip even shows around where we live.
