naw, $14 a kilogram, but that would only be 3 or 4 average size ones.

usually you can pick up the ones that are just getting over ripe for under $1 a kilogram
but its been over 12 mths since i've even seen any of those available.

They are 49 cents a pound at IGA up the street. I make them into sandwiches in hot weather when I don't want to cook.

here we have two major supermarket chains, Woolworths and Coles. they seem to have the monopoly on most grocery items.
here in our town we only have Woolworths, but their service is usually slow at the check-outs and they deliberately keep their prices up cos they know they can.
we also have a smaller locally owned IGA supermarket, i tend to migrate there most of the time cos its quieter ,not crowded and the staff are friendly and quicker too.
most ppl tend to think they're going to get things cheaper at the bigger store, and some things may be due to their bigger buying power, but you still can't beat old fashioned service, even if things might be a few cents dearer.

on the mainland of Australia, they have another supermarket chain called Aldi, theyve got a lot of cheaper products than here, but we usually get slapped with higher freight costs being an island.

We have Aldi here. It is a German owned company. Their prices are good but I don't like shopping anywhere you have to pay to get the grocery cart and get your money back when you return it unless it gets stuck in the cart as usual.
