but as for mine, its not only a sea faring term,it also describes rural farmland as well.
means much the same thing though..

We get our water from the Cape Fear River. I don't even want to think what is in our drinking water besides a load of chemicals to make it safe to drink. I miss well water.

I had undrinkable well water for 15 years..
Be nice to have some sweet water again..
Maybe if I get to move to N. Ga.

we connected to town water but i also installed my own 15 000 gallon water tank in our back yard cos it rains here 3/4's of the year anyway and at least i know whats on my own roof.
town water gets so many mega-litres allocated in your annual rates but after that you have to pay for it,which to me is ridiculous in our area.
i could understand if we were in a drought effected area but when we have excess storm water running down gutters on a weekly basis whats the point apart from government departments cashing in.
