I see it everyday, so many people telling others that they live too far away.....too far away for what?....to chat and become internet friends?.....your not going to meet every single person you talk to on here in person anyway, so what's the diff?.....why do people even bother contacting you just to say they wish you were closer, or sorry your so far away?....the internet has opened up this wonderful, vast world to us, and brought it into our homes, for us to explore....are we just going to shut the door in it's "face" and only look at things in our own back yard?....my question to everyone is this.......how far would you travel to meet a friend, and how far would you travel for potential life long love?.....personally, I think it'd be worth crawling to the ends of the earth, if it means getting to your soul mate....but that's just me.....why do we limit ourselves geographically....aren't we missing out on a lot of fabulous experiences that way?.....I mean I understand the financial, and time constraints on some people, but does that mean we can't even talk to them......ok enough....I'm rambling....how far would you go????.....looking forward to everyones thoughts on this....

well there is no distance to great for people you want to be friends with. But in the sense of long distance relationships, it would be nice to be closer. When I say I wish I was closer it's because I want to get with someone. If I had endless resources of money then distance would be no problem. But is traveling expense of long distances worth it just to meet someone if you are not sure about them. If somebody I don't really know that well, tells me to hop on a plane and come meet them, I wouldn't do it. Somebody that I talk with everyday for weeks or months, chances are much better.

I understand what your saying Band.... and I agree with you.....it would be more convenient to be closer to someone that you want a long term relationship with....but most of the time you move together eventually anyway right?.....but does that mean that you'd completely dissreguard someone you really liked just because it meant a plane ride to be with them....anyway, my point is that some people only contact you to say your too far away.....they don't even try to get to know you to see if there's a possiblity for friendship or a more serious relationship....they just automatically shut the door because you don't live next to them...why?....to me that's really limiting yourself to new experiences....but I guess that's just me.....

for me, I'm not spending $1500 on a plane ticket for a "gee, I don't think we'd get along, but thanks for coming."

as far as it takes..........i look at it as an opportunity.......when i was younger so many things came past me that i wish i had of had the foresight to grab the brass ring.......so to speak.......now i am 52 years old and i can never reclaim those opportunities.......i think i am smarter than i was 30 years ago........so i should be able to make a better choice on how i spend my time and my money...........i have the ability to set my priorities myself........for now.........so i guess i have an unfair advantage over a lot of people.........i am not tied to a job or obligations........i would chose to travel any distance if i truly believed there was a reason to..........

to Sums.....and yes, I suppose you have somewhat of an advantage over most of the rest of us....however, if someone chooses to be with another, they need to make the time to do so, and make it a financial priority to see them, not wait for life to give them the opportune moment, right? If you wait until you have the time and money to do anything....it will probably never get done....but if you make the time, and save the money to do it, you'd be suprised how quickly it can happen.

but how far would you go if you had been corresponding for awhile, and got along great, and you were pretty certain it would work out? Then I would try my best to find away to get there, work and family being major factors.

that's one of my points though.....you guys give it a chance to learn what type of relationship could develop before deciding what distance is too far..... to you you both.....you're not just shutting the door on a person for the SOLE reason that they don't live in your own back yard.

I have spent up to 600 hundred dollars only to be dropped to the curb when the time came.
Despite hundreds of emails and all the time spent on the phone. It was real to me, but apparently something else was going through her mind.
I am not in the mood for a repeat.
actions and what is actually inside someone cannot be verified. all you can do is keep your end of the bargain, be real and be true but protect your interests.
caution is always a red flag, that something is up. at some point, you should stop, cut your losses and move on.

caution is always a red flag, that something is up. at some point, you should stop, cut your losses and move on. agreed .....stop and cut your losses with THAT particular person.....but don't give up on giving everyone else an equal opportunity.
