Honestly, I do a quick skim of the profile (for location, what they're looking for, etc) and then check out the pics to see if they're real and if they're someone I'm interested in. I never leave without reading the essays tho; lack of would disappoint me.
Edit: Ope never mind, age is first and foremost.

I find reading the essays very telling of the type of person. If I can't understand them because they can't spell, then I usually skip 'em.
