as kids we grew up on a farm and once dad made a batch of home brew beer and something went wrong with the yeast in it so he poured it all into one of the pig troughs. 
ever seen a fully grown pig try and get up and walk into a sty after its been laying out in the sun for an hour after drinking 1/2 a dozen gallons of fermented beer

Now I bet that was funny. I had some squirrels eat some apple slices I threw away because they were fermented one time. Ever see a drunk squirrel try to climb a tree?

We had old wooden stave barrels we'd mix ground corn and oats mixed with powdered cream and water and kitchen garbage to feed our feeder pigs..
Bottom of the barrel was fermented for sure

we used to make up 44 gallon drums of old potatoes sit them up on old truck rims and get a fire goin underneath them and cook em up for hawg feed.
guess which kid got the job of breaking all the seed shoots off the 'taters..

I remember gettin' the taters out of the cellar tater bin and cutting the seed shoots
off to plant in the spring..

I think I had that job too. The family had one big communal garden. Everyone worked in it during growing season and helped with the canning and everyone got food to put away for the winter. Worked out much better than a lot of small gardens. My job was to go along behind my grandfather who would make a small hole with a stick and put the seeds in then my cousin Mike would come along behind me and cover them up. Those three acres were planted in no time. The adults would keep the weeds out and pick the vegetables after work except for the tomatoes since even children could tell when it was time to pick them. That and the meat from hunting and the fish caught in some of the farm ponds really kept the food bill down back then.

I can remember in the winter when my dad would walk the fence rows and
grab pheasants hiding in the dead grass that's always along them.
Ate lot's of pheasant in the winter time

Around here dove and quail hunting season as well as deer season was always a big deal.
