Well, I'd be happy to pay for the breast implants. As long as they are BIG ONES. Friggin' BASKETBALLS! I could really go for a woman with basketball boobs.

I did answer your question winter. It is a social adjustment to keep the alpha males from taking up all the women.

Okay: what I'm seeing here is kind of disappointing. First of all, you're only taking into consideration one model of polygamy. The so-called "Mormon" version that is marriage based. Since monogamy (and therefore polygamy) has nothing to do with marriage, maybe you should straighten out your head first.

There are MANY multiple partner models. Polygamy. Polyamory. Swinging. Open relationships. And that just names a few. Painting them all with the same broad brush is just as foolish as saying "white people can't dance well and black people can."

Secondly, some of the comments are just sad:

Let's walk around naked, play with ourselves in public and tell the cops to fuck off.

While the ideal of anarchy can be alluring or repulsive, people know there's a damned good reason not to do things that aren't in the interest of social ethics or public safety, so using that as an argument for or against polygamy is preposterous.

If polygamy were legal all the really rich and successful men would end up getting most of the women. That would leave even fewer chicks for normal guys.

That assumes 2 things. First, that the only thing women are interested in is money and that "normal" guys deserve women just on the basis that they are male. Women are much more intelligent than to realize that money is the bottom line in any relationship, and men shouldn't have a "right" to access women sexually just because they have a working penis.

more than likely you'll just have several headaches to deal with

It's possible that in larger families there could be more problems, but conversely, there would be more resources to cope with those problems. Hence in many cases it balances out.

But thats the thing, why is illegal?

To me, tippo seems to be really on the ball most of the time. The answer is that monogamy is a social control, meant to reduce the individual liberties that people have in favor of a male-dominated society. Go back into my blogs if you need some real examples of this.

Actually, if you check into the few families who are 'blended' in one form or another, having more than one mommy and daddy to do the parenting can actually be a very positive thing. When one doesn't want to deal with a problem right now, run to the others. One is sure to have a moment to help you with whatever.

Why isn't it legal? Because the Baptists got pissed off with the Mormons. Honest and true. Look up your history.

Hi Tippo,

I have been wondering about this. A few years ago I had met a woman that said she was in polygamous relationships. I wish I would have picked her brain at the time. I wonder about the success of them.

I looked up the definition

Historically, polygamy has been practiced as polygyny (one man having more than one wife), or as polyandry (one woman having more than one husband), or, less commonly as "polygamy" (having many wives and many husbands at one time).

I agree with you, to each his/her own

If I'm high maintenance and if I cannot decide which guy I would like to marry, then YES I think I should be able to marry more than one guy. There are too many gorgeous guys out there in the world! LOL

the biblical aspects have always nagged at me - King David of Old Testament fame (I believe he also owns a fried chicken franchise), was considered good in God's eyes and yet he had multiple wives / concubines. When did God change his mind about that?

Now from a more practical perspective, I can't keep one wife happy, how and the hell could I keep multiple wives happy. In fact, I'd be scared that they'd consort against me and make a "no nookie for me" pact.

My personal view -- if polygamy was truly a mutual loving environment where all wives were loved relatively equally and the wives gained benefit from having close women friends that could relate to them intimately, then there is merit, but I think everyone would readily admit that this altruistic vision is rarely what happens. Usually it's a cult where people escape and need years of therapy.

Too bad long has such a pissy attitude towards women.. And you're on this site because? lol

back in the bible days it was ok too have more then 1 wife, but now it is illegal too do that why?

if this country believes in the bible so much and preaches it then why make waht the bible says is ok illegal

This is only ONE era from history and in my personal opinion, its an inaccurate one based on patriarchal beliefs. The Bible is still very chauvanistic to me in many ways so really I can't believe in something that antiquated and sexist.. This is my opinion only so no attacks please.
There was another era where women ruled ...and we had as many husbands or partners as we wished.

Its ONLY because of the bible that polygamy is illegal. Yes most of the
"people" who created those laws that are based on this "Bible" or had influence in them are either banging little boys or are cheating on thier wives.

Go figure LOL

Personally I think whatever works between two consentual adults..or great. We aren't meant as humans to be monogamous anyhow. That's another fallacy of the "bible".

When is the last time you were NOT attracted to another human besides your own partner. lol

Ah, a bible discussion with none who could even hope to ever have been bible scholars...The Old Testament (Jewish law) was more than happy to allow multiple marriages...New Testament (Christ's Law) brought forth the rules against multiple wives. Check it out sometime ;)

Want to know in what situation you can Legally have multiple wives in the US?? It's really easy...all you have to do is become a Muslim...Muslims are allowed as many wives as they can afford...and guess what, when they move to the US...they get to keep all their wives as wives.

So, go to Saudi, convert, marry a few gals, and come back. The US Gov't can't say or do SQUAT because they don't want to piss off the Saudi's because if they disallow ONE multiple marriage performed on Saudi soil they have to disallow them all...and that's a can of worms nobody really wants to open. other thing...someone...anyone...needs to commit multiple marriages and then SUE the state that they are in for a return to having the right of multiple marriage. Let's face it, if we are gonna allow gay marriage there is little standing in the way of multiple marriages except the US Tax code. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that if gay marriage continues to be legalized, there is no possible way they'll be able to prevent poly unions from occuring nationwide.
