Why do couples fight over the thermostat? My mom and dad were constantly going behind each other raising and lowering the thing, each one swearing they were going to buy a lock.Usually it's the woman that likes it on the warm side, guys want it lower. At least that's what I've seen. The only guy I ever knew that was constatly jacking up the heat was a room mate we once had,and he suffered from medical condition that made him feel colder than it was.
Since I've lived in the deep south all my life,I'm not a big fan of heat and humidity.80 degrees F is just way too hot for me (don't ask me how I've survived living in Florida this long,I have no idea)and I can't stand dead, still air.Even with heat on,I have to have some type of breeze stirring around. My ex wife used to shiver and bundle up if it got below 68F(she grew up in the midwest,Nebraska winters so go figure),which is just when it gets comfy for me.
I've often wondered if there's any physical reasons why the genders seem to have adifferent threshhold of comfort when it comes to temperature.
Where do you like your thermostat set and did you ever fight with your SO over it?

I don't have an SO to argue with. My thermostat has been set at 70 the past couple of weeks. Today, though, with it being 51, I can turn it down. I still feel a little cold, but I think it's cause I have a sinus infection.....

This is such a funny subject. My parents are constantly at it with each other too. However, they are just the opposite. Dad wants it set at 78 or higher and mom keeps trying to turn it down. Dad doesn't want any ceiling fans on, during the summer he sleeps with his electric blanket and flannel sheets and refuses to have the air conditioning on. During the winter with the furnace set at 78, he goes into the kitchen and turns an electric heater on too. My poor mom is just able to only sit there. The moment she gets up and starts moving around, she is sweating. All winter long, she has been running around the house with shorts and sleeveless shirts on trying to stay cool.

Shadow is from South Texas... I am from Northern Michigan...
Shadow can't handle the cold... I can't handle the humidity...
Winter time the thermostat is HIS problem... Summer time it's MINE!

Ususally its durning the summertime. I cant stand the heat (sad fact that I live in the desert). If its a hot day i got to have the ac on. Usually I get shit from other people cause they are either cold, or they dont want a high bill.

Since I was the one usually writing out the check to pay the bills, I was usually the one turning down the temp in the winter. I figure that you can always add more clothes, right? Now that I am alone, I set it to suit me. Strange thing is, once upon a time, I was always too hot. Now, it seems, can't ever get warm. Especially this winter. Is it spring yet?

It may be related to biology. Women--whether petite or BBW--have a higher percentage of body fat than men and therefore heat up more quickly and stay warm longer. That's why most of the survivors of the infamous Donner Party (Google is your friend ) were female. My folks are the same way--Dad is always turning up the thermostat and Mom is always complaining about it. The summer heat rarely bothers me, but I hate cold weather.

I am the most miserable person when its hot. I get grumpy as hell. If I could spend the summer under the ac 24-7 I would. I swear if I was rich, My house would be cold enough to hang meat during the summer months. SInce Im not rich and couldnt dream of the electric bill, I will just have to suffer.

I'm with you there, man, don't know how I survived growing up in the deep south and living in Florida.I could get cheap vacation cruises in the Caribbean and other tropical places but I have absolutely no desire for them as I grew up seeing palm trees and beaches all the time.
My wife and I plan to retire to British Columbia.I'm a happy camper with 65 to 70.I have very little body fat(11% roughly) as I work out regularly,so Rare Questor's hypothesis doesn't work in my situation. Overcast rocks.Hard, bright sunlight is miserable lighting for a TV photojournalist.Harsh and ugly on faces with deep shadows, lose all detail in eyes.Overcast makes colors jump out on video and soft lighting on faces.Very important when you can't control which direction your key light (Mr.Sun)is coming from.
Oh I digress....sorry.

I lived in both Mississippi and wisconsin for shor periods, couldnt take the damn humidty in either place, so i didnt even last a year in either location, Sad thing is I live and have grown up in the desert in Southern California. So its hot all summer. But its a dry heat. Still come summer, If the ac is not on, stay away from me!

Nope, not arguing over the temp. Office is around 68 year-round. Only woman in the office too. It's the men who are so hot. House is whatever the hubby sets it. I can add or remove clothing to be comfy.
