Meeting someone online is just like meeting someone in RL, you never really know how it is going to turn out and whether or not they will be a catch or not. Ive met quite a few people online in RL two of them I have had relationships with. So I guess the point I am trying to make is, meeting people online is pretty much no different than meeting someone in person.
PS: Their is one bonus to meeting people online, you can find out about info about them before you chat with them and your not face to face with them when you chat with them your first few times (so if they are creppy you can run away!!!) =P

I've met women from online a few times, and mostly things went well. Didn't have any lasting long-term deals, but experiences weren't too bad. Always met in public places. First woman I met was the best one though. She came to my city and stayed at a hotel, and brought her 'cousin' or whatever, I dont really know who he was. She wanted to get in the hot tub at the place, so I said OK. I saw a tatoo on her leg that was probably a good indication of things to come, a bleeding heart with a knife through the middle . We went to this country/western dance place, and the woman proceeded to get shitfaced, so the cousin and I played pool and left her to herself. Needless to say, I didnt follow up on that deal

I have met about 8 or so from online.......They have either flown into town or they have flown me there to them...The connections were good....Only one from NY did I ask him to leave early. No sexy stuff was passed around...just nice weekends. I take normal precautions....I wont fly there unless I know someone in that state. Also Im allowed to pack one.

When online crosses that thin line into reality. Okay safety issues adside, I blogged about that earlier. I'll call this one When Canu met Sunny....
90% of people do this, though they won't admit it.. they tend to be a bit less than genuine, not fakes per say, but my tendancy to hide my funny ears or touch the grey n my beard in paint shop to appear younger. So theres those butterflies.
Also, as Decaturnooner pointed out in his blog today, there is a chemistry issue. Sure two people can chat and hit it off, but if there ain't fireworks when you kiss?
For the newer folks just tuning in, The day Sundance64 stepped off the plane into my arms, was a day wrought with nerves, fears of rejection and worries. Had she not been nervous as well, to the point of trembling, and nearly passing out (I caught her don't worry) Giving me a focus (calming her own) I very well might have had a nervous breakdown...
Don't knock online dating because its new, it can and does work!

I know exactly how you feel Canu. I met someone offline that I totally fell in love with. We were together for about a year when he asked me to marry him. I had to say no because of some family problems with my older daughter, but I'll always love him. He knows that, but he wanted to be married so he married someone else. I still see him from time to time, and it's always like he never left.
