Please add a notice to inform us that a given blog requires prior approval for comments posted. Some folks seem to be abusing that feature and only allow comments that express an opinion they would like to see. This feature would save us all a lot of time from commenting on blogs where the person just wants to get compliments for their superior intellect....

And then there are those that won't allow your post regardless of your position on whatever drivel they've put out there!

There should be some indication on the blog if they don't accept comments or if approval is required so we don't waste time on those blogs.

If a person takes the time to write a blog and feel its thier right to publish it in the open they should also respect the right of those responding whether thier opinion agrees or not. ADM really shouldnt give the option to those posting blogs whether to accept or not responses should be automatically posted with ADM monitoring it so it doesnt violate any rules. The problem is that we are always dealing with mature people and there are some that only want thier opinion posted and not have anyone disagree with. I agree that if someone refuses to accept a response to a blog that there should be a post that a response was refused. I think we get to know alot about the people that write in the forums and blogs and if i was interested in someone who didnt want his opinion argued i dont know that i would be that interested in him anymore.
Just my two cents.

I have an interim solution to this problem until AMD implements a notification system for blogs that require approval prior to posting (which effectively means what you spent a lot of time writing might never appear just because the blog owner might not agree 100% with what you said).
Just type the word test (or anything else short) and hit submit to find out if a NEW blog owner uses preapproval. If it goes through and posts quickly post a follow-up (perhaps with a note on why you did the test post) with you real, intended comments.
Once you are familiar with a blogger this isn't necesary anymore and maybe for those who require preaproval, they will consider changing their blogs when it is full of test posts.....

Once you are familiar with a blogger this isn't necesary anymore and maybe for those who require preaproval, they will consider changing their blogs when it is full of test posts..... It's a practical idea I understand but some folks may reasonably regard it as being a tad discourteous. If you're going to test at least make it less obvious by posting a short sentence that says something pertinent to the blog -- like maybe a synopsis of what you were going to say and that you will expand on it later.

It's more discourteous to not approve of a comment that is well written and polite but may not agree with the blogger. The point is why should I waste my time writing to a blog if it won't get published? Maybe with enough "test" posts this preapproval bs will disappear....

I guess there's no need to start a whole new thread on this!
My suggestions:
1) Set the default for blogs to accept ALL comments; new members take a while to figure out that the setting options even exist, and I think it's sending the wrong message that embracing diverse opinions is the alternative, not not the norm.
2) The "settings" options shouldn't lump profiles, photos, and blogs together. I can understand limiting photo and profile comments to friends only, but it's backwards to allow someone to post a blog available for all of us to see and then limit comments to friends only.
What I really think, though, is that the "pending approval" option shouldn't even exist at all. I think bloggers should reserve the right to: a) delete inflammatory or discourteous material AFTER it's been posted; and b) to block individual users if they're consistently causing trouble. The rest of the restrictions have the effect of stifling dialogue, but I know some people like being able to approve comments selectively...

I got to agree with lintroller on this one it took me a while to find those settings. However it would be nice just to see a icon or something indicating that a blog is set to permission only.

I have to echo aberlour's suggestion; flagging each blog with "open," "restricted," "no comments" etc would prevent us from finding out after the fact that our lengthy blog responses have been denied. I think that's what really drives people nuts more than the ability to limit comments in the first place.
At the end of the day, if someone wants to stifle dialogue and just shout from the rooftops with impunity, I want to know beforehand so I know not to waste my time posting a response.
