I just recently got out of a relationship, and although the sex wasn’t bad, it wasn’t something to remember. Don’t get me wrong, we each had multiple orgasms every time, but it just didn’t satisfy. Has anyone experienced this? And have you experienced the all-mighty best sexual experience--what made it the best? Am I just expecting too much?

Tough Question---
Sex is like a favorite meal, you can cook it yourself (ala PrincessKissy ), you can dine ala' carte and savor each item on your plate, you can even order take out/delivery or go to a pricey place and get small pretty portions,rude service and a doggy bag for later.
When it all boils down to it, sex is what you make it, when/where/how/and who you have it with that will count.
You state you are not satisfied, insatiable is good too (Look At Bill Clinton, he is a known sex addict too). I think when you lose this unsatisfied feeling you become stagnant and lose a bit of your drive.

Great sex happens not as the culmination of a conquest,
but as the joining of emotionally committed people. 
Don't take that as a criticism - I suffered from TMT
