You're correct JDude7...
Actually the US Government has been trying to do away with the US dollar for years...paper that is. Fact is, they wanted at one time to get rid of the dollar bill and have it replaced with those 2 dollar bills. Not sure if they still hope to or want to do that still...but at one time that was the plan.
Not to mention, bills can easily spread disease (hepatitus can live two weeks outside the body - think about that one next time you get change at a store!). Now as true as this may be...it's the same with the 5-10-20-50-100 dollar bill as well. The only difference is...the bigger bills over 20 aren't used and or handled no where near what the dollar bill is.
You're also right in that producing paper money, especially the one dollar bill is much more costly to produce than a coin. And that's for the fact that as I read...the dollar bill paper lasts on average from 8 to 18 months...as where the coin averages 30 years.
If they really wanted to get rid of the $1 bill, they would have the banks stop handing them out! Very true...but from what I have read on the topic of getting rid of the dollar bill in it's paper form...would piss a lot of people off...and that's the main thing that has kept them from getting rid of the dollar bill...
BTW...I usually personally thank all who post on my blogs...but I'll just give out a blanket thanks to all this time around.
