Sorry Straddle got this Idea from your gun blog!

lol...hey, it's computers, not guns, right?

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavilion. I have had no major problems with it and I love it. It's pretty old, like 7 years old, but I'm content with it.

Personally, you should goto a computer store and ask which is the best to get try Fry's electroics (if there is one in your area)

I got a refurbished compaq 3.5 ghz pc in feb 2006, it seems to work great at home (I'm not at home atm at my grandmothers house on her slightly older pc)

I had a really spiffy model with vacuum tubes and punch cards
but now I just prefer to use my abacus.

There's only ONE Belair

Hmmmmm- an abacus with video and internet access! Where can I get one?

Having serviced 'puters for years up to 5 years ago, I'm now convinced engineers build in harassment code in firmware (non-erasable memory) into them so that it's always there when you turn it on!! It's a conspiracy I tell ya!!

Build my own... Recommend the same if you have the know how, and the extra $$$. It will cost a bit more, but you get what YOU want in it... Not what THEY think you'll want...

Computer? Is that one of them things that does the same thing my calculator does but takes up more space?

Feb 11 @ 12:51PM
Ok tuna head ! if you can contact me on your calculator! I'm in! I thought there was only 1 Belair ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Feb 11 @ 12:53PM

Since I am in IT, I have a home built unit. If you are mechanically inclined, it is not hard to do. The best thing about mine is if I ever need a part, I can go and pull one off the shelf instead of having to buy it from the manufacturer. You are right J, I have what I want, not what they say I want.

I have 2 computers here at e-machine that I LOVE, was a gift from my Daddy like 8 yrs ago, still going strong, only thing I've done to it is replace the hard drive (gotta get bigger with the times, you know). Also have one that was custom built for me by a friend in Chicago, then sent to me as a birthday gift 2 yrs ago.

I highly recommend Fry's Electronics, it's where my e-machine came from, and I REALLY recommend e-machine. They say that they are 'never obsolete', and I am starting to believe them after 8 yrs and no issues with the machine itself.

Just my opinion.....

TLC (yup, that's my initials for real!)

I love my Sony VIAO notebook.

Feb 11 @ 3:17PM
my dell still works good and I just give it the love and care it needs, if this is a man, oh boy !!! We have the love story of a lifetime.

Feb 11 @ 3:30PM
Sony Vaio... about 6-7 yrs old and still works just fine. I live in a area where I cant get a high speed connection so my interent and my computer are both very old and slow.

I have a Dell Dimension E510. This is my second Dell that I have owned and love it.
I sold my other one. I have had this one for almost a year now. I am looking to buy a laptop. But don't want to spend a lot of money on it. I have never used a laptop. But my child and me are always fighting over the computer.
As for Windows Vista I won't try a new program until it has been on the Market for a while to get all the bugs out. They had problems with Windows XP when it first came out.

Computers, Humm, Now which one should I start with? Well since I am a "Computer Geek" right now I currently own about (looks around room to count) right now 10 in the house that I can see. And mind you this does not include other hand held devices. Anyway, I would have to say a custom built machine by far over anything else on the market. At least when it comes to desktops or servers, now laptops are a little different story (not so easy to build your own laptop). I currently own a Dell Inspiron 8600(a little over a year or so old), an old Toshiba, and an EPS notebook. I would have to say I prefer the Dell, mind you at the time I bought it, it was not the cheapest in Dells inventory, but also not the most expensive, it was as Dell says built for me, with an upgraded processor, memory, video card, and hard drive. It has proved to be quite a powerful little investment as well as rugged. It has made several trips with only minor scratches. All that being said, I believe that it is up to the individual what you prefer. In a way it is almost like buying a car or boat, just check out all your options until you find the make and model that best suits you.. Hope this helps at a little. TC

Gosh, I just have a cheap ass PowerSpec from MicroCenter. I bought extra memory when I bought it. I don't have anything on it except Windows XP that came with it. I'm thinking about adding Vista, but like others have said....I'm waiting.
