We all have our preferences as to what charity we support. I actually have two of them. The first one is the Humane Society. I do love animals, especially cats. I have a few cats as pets and I am a cat person. The other charity I support is the MS Foundation. The reason behind this is because back in 1995 I was outside cutting my neighbor's grass and I was sweating. Some of my sweat got in my right eye and I rubbed my eye hard because it was stinging and itching too. After I did that I lost so much vision in my right eye and held off going to the doctor until I finally caved in three days later. Before he ran the MRI machine with my brain he thought that I had signs of MS. That scared the hell out of me and I thought that how can one thing like rubbing your right eye hard and losing most of your vision in that right eye lead to this. Finally I was put into the MRI machine and had that test rain on my brain. The hardest part was the waiting for the results. After two days it came in and he said that he didn't think I had anything to worry about, but it did show that I had some white lesions on my brain that could possibly show MS. But the numbers were in my favor where 83 % that I wouldn't get that and 17% where there's that slight chance, but I was pretty much in the clear. The didn't care much for that quack putting me through this, and I have resented the fact that he put that in the back of my mind when I felt there was no reason for concern. He wanted to give me steriods to get my vision back in my right eye and I refused that when he brought that up over the phone two day later when he gave me the results. He then said that he felt that he can no longer be my doctor and I said fine, you never were, this was the first time I went in to see you. That doctor actually wanted to use me as a ginnie pig and test some stuff on me. Hen wasn't used to seeing younger patients in his office either and saw mostly elderly people. The problem with my eye was an inflammed optic nerve. After about three months my vision came back fully. After that I thought long and hard about that for the next couple of years. After a while I became comfortable enough to not think about that and have never had any serious problems healthwise since then. When I hear MS that always gets my attention. When that happened I did a lot of research on it and I was surprised that in all cases, most are women that have MS. Not sure why that is, but since then I have tried to do more reasearch on why most cases are women. It's always hitting the younger generation more these days as young as 12 believe it or not. I have heard recently that vitimin D is a good resource in prevention of MS. Not sure if that's true, and I'm still following this. So, with all that said on my charities, what are your(s), and why?

Until recently I worked with two, I'm not sure why I was overlooked to help out with two big events last/this year, but...

mine would be the humane society since i just love animals especially dogs.then the other one would be children's global network, which is aiding children in third world countries get food to eat, clean water to drink and shelter.nothing compares to the feeling of helping others and doing ur part in making this world a better place to live in.

After I heard the Director of the American Red Cross was getting paid 11 million dollars a year and had their own private jet. While asking all the while for the ordinary person to volunteer freely of their time to help the Red Cross.

I agree with slitfiller. However, as I don't donate money, I do donate time and a friend and I help at a local shelter to help get homeless on their feet. As I was once homeless ten years ago, I feel I should give back.

My siblings and I make "Dedicated donations" to the American Cancer Society. Those donations are to support research into a type of cancer that is 100% fatal and which killed our mother. The type of Cancer is Glioblastoma Multiforme. It is brain cancer and it is always fatal; usually within 6 months to a year post diagnosis.

We aren't asking for the world... We are asking for ONE more day for the families of people who have been diagnosed with this disease. Just ONE. One more day to say "I love you". One more chance to make a memory that has to last a lifetime. One more smile. That's not too much to ask.

When the Relay for Life comes to your location... Get involved. Walk a lap. Remember.

I support St. Judes Hospital and Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.). In 1989 I had a stepson die from cancer, hence the reason for St. Judes. Since I have lived in Arkansas I have started to support B.A.C.A.

My support has always been to the WI Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

I do my best to try to donate what little money i have to the March of Dimes and any program that tries to keep the fine arts in our schools. I used to help my old pastor with her Shalom School program. it's set up so that elementary kids in bad neighborhoods have somewhere safe to go once a week and hang out and have fun. the emphasis on it was to teach them to show kindness to those around them and to accept diversity. Planning to volunteer for that again come spring.
