You stay up for 16 hours
He stays up for days on end.

He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends.
He still fights for your right to wear that shirt.

You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.
He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.
__________________________
You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you.
He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.
__________________________
You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls.
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

You complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong.
He doesn't get to eat today.

Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

You go to the mall and get your hair redone.
He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today.
__________________________
You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over.
He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

You roll your eyes as a baby cries.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet

You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.

You see only what the media wants you to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.
__________________________
You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't.
He does exactly what he is told.

You stay at home and watch TV.
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable.
He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.

OOH-RAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! says alot about our troops that they must endure the brainless and political drivel back here at home rather than to just go out and do that for which they have trained. It is frustrating to fight a war we may or may not agree on but, to have to wonder whether we have lost our friends at home for doing our jobs... sounds silly doesn't it???

OOOH-RAH!" I knew someone that was killed over there. It was one of the sadest funerals I had ever been too. He was like 19 years old. Too young. I was just talking about him tonight with a friend and then I logged on and read this post.

Being a retired military person myself, It is great to see people supporting our troops the way they deserve. No one knows just how hard it is to be that far away from home and in the back of your head wondering when and sometimes IF you will go home. All our troops need the support of us ALL.

I've recieved this before, And I get the same feeling now that I did then, I won't say the word told, Not my style, But I will say, I can't stand to hear people knock them...As this message states, They are doing what they are told, I'm sure most of them would prefer not being there...Things aren't always up to us sadly...Don't necessarily support the war, But dammit, Support the troops...

Hiya hun.. wow.. a very interesting blog. It was so wonderfully written !! and it is so true. As a Proud Canadian, I deeply feel for all the troops, and their loved ones, that are away fighting eveyday, as we work,, and everynight, as we sleep. Had a good buddy who was in the USMC. He said that any time he felt like training was tough and that the Marines must have it worse than anyone else on the planet...he looked past the chain link to where the Rangers were training.
He said after seeing their routines he felt like he was getting off easy.

Supporting the war is the same as supporting the troops.
If you protest the war as a way of supporting the troops your actually hurting them.
They need to hear that that they are backed morally and with the proper equipment. This should be a lesson learned from more recent wars in American history.

OOOH-RAH! A friend and coworker of mine was killed over there. His name was Adam. He went to school with my daughter. He was 21 and leading a patrol. Took a bullet thru the head. He was scheduled to come home in 2 weeks.
He was a good kid.

I ooh-rah their patience & discipline. I ooh-rah their persistence & dilligence.
I do not ooh-rah the war. I do not ooh-rah death as a form of diplomacy. My brother was in the war & I know a friend who is out in Afghanistan right now... My brother got home safe and I hope my friend does too. The concept deserves an ooh-rah, but not the method. (I couldn't give an ooh-rah without separating the two ideas). Good post! Also, a kudo for the good post.

I support anyone fighting for my freedom.....anyone who doesn't should pack their shit and move to country where terrorism and dictatorship rule the land !!!
Is there a better way to go about this ? Who really knows, but to protest the effort is counter-productive..... for all of us.
I think the Constitution is being rewritten everyday and that will be this countries downfall. We used to be a loyal, proud and hard working nation but capatalism is consuming us with greed, and that is what will eat us up from the inside out.
Protest happy ?
Go protest for the Afro-American generation of slaves who were forced to build an industrial revolution they still aren't fully entittled to.....
Go protest for the Vietnam vets who died for us and came home to be shit on....
Go protest for the Native Americans from which we stole this country from.......
Go protest for the saving of the Constitution of the United States....because it is being stolen from us little by little everyday !!!
but never forget those who make it a freedom for you to PROTEST !!!....that just seems to me like biting the hand that feeds you.

Thank you everyone for the awesome response, I have a 19 yr old step-nephew in the marines. He is still here in the U.S THANK GOD, but who knows for how long. I told my sister-in-law of the great response i have recieved to this blog and she asked me to give you all her heartfelt thanks for your support of our troops.

Our troops ARE good people and have the best of ideals and they're being used as cannon fodder for the evil rich in our country...
Let's not lie to our selves and pretend that this war is in any way just and in line with OUR ideals...
And I've already said to my friends that I would GLADLY take the place of any one of them IF they could be home with their own families...

right now there is a song out there by Rascal Flatts called in God we still trust. There are so many groups that are in support of the troops but the media refuses to acknowledge them. Each friday please wear red for the support of the troops. War is hell, no one likes it. Yet we, both the people here out of harms way and those in Harms way must fight for all our freedoms. Let us as one nation stand and let all know we have our freedom because we will not back down, either here or abroad.

Sorry I didn't see this blog sooner. The Media is a terrible thing. I get my information form those that have been there, my friends. Quite a different story than what you read or see on TV.
I pray every night that my friends still over there will return home safe. Although I am not enlisted anymore I still have many friends that are.

I was in the Army for 13 years and I support our troops 110%, when one generation leaves protecting our freedom it is nice to know that our country hasn't totally went to shit.. that there is still men and women in the next generation willing to pick up and carry on what so many before tham have started and done before them!
The only thing I wissh is they didn't have to do it with their hands tied behind their backs! I think we should go in,kick ass, and win ... and come the hell home!

I had 2 grandfathers served in the Army (I might be wrong on which branch of the military exactly). One had passed on when my mom was 9 years old, her stepdad is still living. First and foremost, for them I say OOOHHH RAHHH!!!
For every other person - currently in or retired from military life, regardless of serving in an actual war - I give you a big OOOHHH RAHHH from my kids and I. Thank you for selflessly doing what many might be too coward to do themselves. Or might not be in a position to do themselves for other more personal reasons.

I forgot to put in my last post a big OOOOHHHH RRRAAAAAHHHHH for a former neighbor of mine whom is in the Marines (when last I spoke with his wife at the gas station of all places) should be coming home sometime this month. Also, OOOHHHH RRRAAAAHHHHH for a very dear friend of mine who lives in northern California whom was also in the Marines.
