I live in Upstate New York, the ancestral home of the Onondaga, Oneida, and Seneca nations. These Native Americans are very proud of their heritage and every Native American I have ever gotten to know is similarly proud of their heritage, quick to tell you of their family history. Even if they are not full blooded members of their tribe.

Many women here on AMD profile themselves as Native American. However, when asked about their heritage they change the subject asking for your private contact info, where they then will ask for your credit card number to "verify your ID".

I understand people who are in the business of collecting data and selling their website and their cam. It's business, it's commerce. But please don't hide behind a fa├žade of being a Native American. A proud people, they deserve better.

If real Native Americans disagree with my sentiment, let me know and I will retract this blog, but if you do agree, let yourself be heard. Don't let the scammers and spammers besmirch your rep.

Seems like a lot of people try to claim and take advantage of the Native American label.

Not too long ago, Elizabeth Warren (U.S. Senator from MA) tried to take advantage of claiming to be Native American for her own personal gain in my opinion.

Hmmm. I always interpreted this tactic as someone from overseas, who didn't understand
what the idiom "Native American" implied, but rather took it to mean "born and raised in
America". To me it was a sure sign of a scammer who was unfamiliar with American
patterns of speech. The request for a credit card number, etc., would be verification (to me,
anyway) of this scheme.

(Um, I found it hard to read this post while keeping a straight face. If I'm missing a joke
somewhere, well, egg on MY face... )
