A lot of us grouse about the participation decline, myself included. While all of the various perspectives on the demise have validity and are contributing factors, a major factor is being overlooked IMO.

I think a major contributing factor to the participation downturn on MD and AMD is that a lot of people are increasingly accessing the Net through their smart phones now. I'm pretty sure that neither site have an available G4 app. That could well be a major reason for the continuing decline now.

But both sites suffered during the "Great Recession" and had their revenue streams dry up so they don't have the funds to have a G4 app. developed. The rise of the smart phone has moved people away from their desktop and laptops to a very large degree when it comes to accessing Net.

I agree with much of what you say in your comment. I will post a blog on both sites comprising of the two paragraphs above.

Are any of you going to watch the Winter Olympics? I am!!!

Meh. IMO, the biggest (if not the ONLY) factor in the decline of AMD is the recurring
holier-than-thou, know-it-all, smart-assed, self-pleasuring, soliloquizing pustule of a
resident troll. There can be no greater reason.

(An aside: One must wonder what causes an otherwise unremarkable individual to
maintain such a relentless harangue upon a group of posters who care little or nothing
about said individual's education, vocabulary or intelligence. The mere tenacity of
the repeated attack(s) speaks volumes to our nuisance's flawed character.
But I digress...)

It has always been a smallish site and I think people realized the chances of them meeting anyone within 500 miles of them with similar interests is almost zero, Besides Facebook and other large sites now have dating apps on them where you are much more likely to find what you are looking for, Then add in the fact that the site needs updating and more moderation and has become more of a right wing political site and there you have a poisonous brew for new members sticking around to keep the site growing,
