We have an ice storm warning in effect for tonight. The system moving in will be here sometime tonight, and drop roughly around a quarter of an inch of ice.
I would rather have the snow instead of the ice tonight. We can see some power lines snap and more accidents out on the roads, along with people falling ore than they would with the traction of snow on the ground.
The last time we had a major ice storm here was back in Feb. 2003. It caused a huge power outage around the area, and some didn't get their power back on until after 5 days. I was one of those that had to wait after 5 days to get mine back on. We had different crews from various electric companies come in to help with restoring the power to people, and helping AEP (My electric company) out. I remember a crew from Cynergy (Duke now) out of Cincinnati restoring my block late one night.
We also had a lot of trees snap into, with debris everywhere. You could here the trees giving in to the ice and snapping up on the hills around here second by second for the first few nights after we got hit big here.
Hopefully it won't be that bad tonight. I know Cincinnati is expecting a lot of ice tonight. I live about 85 miles to the east-southeast of Cincinnati along the Ohio River. After all this we're suppose to get another artic blast of cold air in a couple of nights.
