Yep, my Bengals played horrible once again while playing in the spotlight on national tv. They always seems to wilt in front of a national audience.

I can't blame the officials. The officiating has been pretty good since yesterday's start of the playoffs. Not sure why the officiating can't be this good during the regular season.

There was enough blame to go around as far as my Bengals offense goes in today's game. But let's start with my Bengals quarterback (Dalton). When Dalton is going good, he's going good. He was NFL's AFC player of the month for October. But hell, when he's having a bad game, it's a disaster. Usually when this occurs, there are some Bengals fans that get fickle along the way and call for looking for a new quarterback along with firing of the coach (Lewis) after being on the bandwagon for supporters of both Dalton and Lewis.

Sure, I would get disgusted with the way Dalton would throw interceptions during the season where it would cost us a game, and to where he plays inconsistent. He's consistency has plagued him over his first three years. I'm now questioning after today's game whether my Bengals can work with him to get him straighten out with these problems, or if he's even the right quarterback for us. Getting rid of him and looking for a new one, not sure that's wise to do. No one wants to go back to square one and start all over again with building a team around a quarterback. But something's got to give concerning my Bengals inability to "seal the deal" to get further along into the playoffs, and to win the Super Bowl.

Okay, Dalton wasn't the only one that cost us points on the board. My Bengals #1 receiver (Green) dropped a pass to could have led us to a touchdown. Our backup RB (Bernard) fumbled the ball near the goal line and cost us a touchdown as well.

I do think my Bengals are more talented than San Diego and most teams, but my Bengals didn't perform well once again today.

Over the past week, the media has been playing up this series between my Bengals and San Diego as the "Freezer Bowl Game 2", a cheap takeoff of the first one when both teams played under extreme weather conditions when the wind chill factor was -59 back in Jan. '82. Of course the extreme weather that we're expecting to get from this storm system hadn't started moving into Cincinnati until the second half of the game, and the worst of it isn't suppose to make it in Cincinnati until later tonight through Monday where 3-5' of snow is expected, along with 0-10 below for the low tonight, and only about 0 for the high tomorrow in Cincinnati. Now, me being east of Cincinnati, we're expected to just get 1-2' of snow, with a low around 0 to 3 below, a high of around 5 above tomorrow, and around -6 Monday night. Now why could it be like this today during the game, damn it!

Freezer Bowl

My Bengals haven't won a playoff game since June 6, 1991.

Cheers goes out to the San Francisco 49'ers on their win tonight. I was looking forward to a third Super Bowl match up between my Bengals and 49'ers this year.

Oh well, there's always next season. Bring on March Madness and MLB. I am so ready for both of them.

Three playoff appearances in four years?!? Not bad, for a quarterback in his second
year of pro ball!

Actually, this was Dalton's third year in the pros with the Bengals. And 4 playoffs in the last 5 years I believe.

The problem is Dalton can't seem to take us to the next level, deep into the playoffs and en route to the Super Bowl.

The Bengals have played well with Dalton at quarterback during the regular season games, but it seems like when we have made it to the playoffs three straight years, Dalton is prone to huge mistakes that have cost us the games mostly. I would like to see him overcome this problem.

His contract ends at the end of next year before a decision is made whether or not to give him a contract extension where the big money will come.

I will say this, Dalton is by far the best quarterback we have had since Esiason was with the Bengals.

Meh. So my math sucks...but who's counting??

There are those who are calling for the ouster of Marvin Lewis, Andy Dalton, or both.
This would be a HUGE mistake, IMO. The Bungles' dynasty isn't that long ago, and
people's memories are short. The team is actually attracting decent talent for a change,
and getting rid of either of these two personalities would be equivalent to starting over.

Well, I didn't say I wanted to see either or both of them to get the ax. I know what you're saying because I'm hearing this also on talk radio out of Cincinnati. I do think that would be a mistake to ax Lewis. I would also like to see Dalton as our quarterback for the future as well. But something has to be worked on as far as trying to get Dalton past his playoffs problem.

I think that it's just a matter of gaining experience, on Dalton's part. Once a team is
in the playoffs, there are no poor teams; the level of competition has risen a notch or
two. Dalton (again, IMO) showed considerable stage fright in Sunday's playoff game.
Those butterflies can be worked out in time.

Some teams, and some players, can go decades (or their whole career) without ever
seeing post season competition. Dalton provided one of the missing pieces for the
team when it was more and more certain that Palmer's usefulness had run out.
