Well I did it.

I finally was able to get onto the ACA site to shop around for health insurance. And was pleasantly surprised to find a Silver Plan I qualify for, and my monthly premium, with my tax credit, is UNDER $100 a month!

The tax credit is based upon yearly income, and it can be applied to the monthly premium in 3 different ways:

Apply the full credit, which will give the lowest monthly premium.

Partial credit, which the premium will be slightly higher.

Or, just don't use it at all, pay the full monthly premium.

A couple of the Bronze plans wouldn't have cost me anything, but, their deductibles are high.

So, this wasn't as scary and painful as I feared it would be. I'm still going to wait until after the New Year when I get my taxes done before officially signing up because we also have new Medicaid expansion that is supposed to take place here in Michigan in 2014, so I want to see just how far it expanded. But, even if I don't qualify for Medicaid, and really, I doubt even with the expansion that I would, I still want to wait till after the New Year....still have Christmas shopping to consider.

Well I am dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to all these insurance plans so I got me an insurance man who does all the 'leg work' for me. I do know I'll be staying with SilverScript for my part D, prescriptions. I don't know yet who my supplement will be with...guess he's still shoppin' around but I hope to know for sure by the end of the year. Last year was a mess as it was my first time having a supplement and I had to be on a temporary one until I was approved for the plan that was best for me. Took all of March to get it straightened out...grrrrrr!

But I congradulate you for being brave and forging ahead and finding something that suits you. Now I feel there's hope for affordable insurance for my daughter and her husband. I've advised her to see my insurance agent to assist them since she's just as insurance illiterate as I am.
