October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I thought I would post a blog honoring it.

How many of you have friends and family that's been effected with this horrible disease?

One of my aunt's is a breast cancer survivor. She really fought her way back from it. She's doing well now.

This is a pic Dawn posted over on FB today honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I thought it was pretty and wanted to share this pic over here.

I dated a woman a few years ago who was a breast cancer survivor, via mastectomy. This was
a gutsy woman who continued to work during her chemotherapy, as well as continuing her
participation at her singles group (wearing a head scarf, due to her hair loss from chemotherapy).

It's funny. While at first such a disfiguring condition can be shocking to deal with, over time
one begins to accept the results of the surgery as part of the woman, and not a freak show. She
dealt well with her adaptations, too (such as prostheses, medication, etc.), and learned to deal with
the aftermath of the surgery with quiet acceptance. Quite a strong and brave woman!

I like the pic over here more...it's bigger, can see it better.

Yeah, this hits close to home, my Mom is a breast cancer survivor. Been about 3 years now since her last treatment, and her exams come back clean. Hers was caught very early.
