I decided to see what if anything was going on over here today, and it seems to be pretty dead, as usual. I'd expected to find a bunch of spam mail that I hadn't looked at in close to 4 months, but nothing, and same for the regular mail. Ho Hum.

Any who, I filed for SS and was thinking I would loose what ever I got there from my military retirement, but what a surprise, that is no longer the case. That "offset" as they called it was stopped in 2008, and I didn't know it. So now, i get $1000 more a month. I'm still catching things up but at least I have a little extra to play with. That is the good news.

Now for the not so good. I had a heart attack and now the doctors are really down on my case about quitting smoking, they say my cholesterol is a little high, and my blood pressure is up a tad. I really don't feel any different than I did, the COPD and emphysema are still there and will not be going away. That I can live with, and I know I should give up smoking. No need to preach to me about that. Hell, I don't want to be a drooling source of income for some big money medical outfit, so when I decide it is a good time to die, I will. But not yet, so quit hoping.

I have also seen a dramatic drop in my electric bills since I had the weatherization done to this place. And the central heat and air go long way to keep mold down and sugar from crystallizing in the bag, among other things. So life is good. I have a little more freedom to do what I want, and can do the things I need to do without worrying about how to cover all the bases and still be able to eat.

I'll check back in a day or two and see whats going on, so take care and have fun.

Yes, it's like death valley around here anymore. People busy with their lives, hanging out on other sites...it was bound to happen eventually that this site would fall to oblivion.

As to the whole smoking thing..from a former smoker, you will quit when you're ready. No amount of anyone preaching at you will get you to quit. That is something you have to want and be ready to do. Cause I'll not lie, it's hard to quit. But, it can be done if it's what you really want to do. In the meantime, take what you spend on cigarettes when you buy them, multiply that by 365, for example: I'll go with Marlboro..around here they are $6.15 a pack (our previous governor went to town with taxing cigarettes.. ) So at $6.15 a day for one year, that is $2,244.75 spent on cigarettes a year. Think of saving that money when you quit. Damn!!! And I can remember a pack of Marlboro costing .68 cents when I started smoking.

The local utility company here has an offer of doing a free home inspection to see where a house is losing heat/cooing and offer help in weatherizing. I've been thinking of having them come out here, just been hard to set up anything because of work.

That's good news about your SS not offsetting your military retirement. It's always nice to hear when something goes right for another.

Take care of yourself Duster.

Aw Duster, I'm sorry to hear about your heart attack! But they say if you survive the first one, you're in good shape to not have another one because then you are aware of the problem.

As for smoking....I need to quit, too. I'm hoping since I don't smoke in the house that this winter I'll get sick of freezing my ass off to smoke and it will be an incentive to give it up. No lectures from this side of the fence!

Also glad to hear that financially things are finally looking up for you...that will relieve much of your stress for sure!

And as for AMD....sad, really sad. Like so many others, I'm getting more involved in other sites. I hated facebook but now I'm finally learning to navigate it (a little) and I've discovered they have virtual garage sale groups there so I'm posting stuff to sell 'cause I sure could use some extra money myself. I also started my own group there called 'Creative Writings'. I post my poems and my stories...cleaned up of course...lol.

Anyway, it's good to hear from you and with good news too! I'm not giving up here and I don't think Dawn is either and I hope you hang in there with us, too. F**k 'em...we'll just have our own little Clickety Click...how's that??? ROFLMAO
