No, this isn't a detailed history, just rough basics.

Social media, I think one of the first areas where Internet users were "chatting" was in what was called BBC boards? (RJ? Is that right?) Anyway, people would post messages/thoughts on these boards and respond to other posts. It was a new concept, and was popular for a while.

Then, came the Yahoo message boards, a variety of different topics people could find to post on and about. Sure, arguments started, and for the most part, were over as quick as they started, but some, which became referred to as "flame wars", could go on for months to years. It is so so easy to "fight" with one another online. There is no physical confrontation, words are exchanged over a wire. And with this, came what is known today as the "troll". They would have anywhere from 2 to more profiles, and go on the board where the fight is, and just use the different profiles for attacks and counterattacks.

Then, came the social sites, MySpace, where people could created a web page, connect to friends, and share there ideas, dreams, music, etc....and during this time, dating sites were coming into their popularity. They would offer free sign up, but some would then say you had to pay a membership fee in order to use things like their email, message boards, and eventually chat when chat came into the picture. And the WeBlog was created, aka, Blog. People could keep a running, online diary of their thoughts. Dating sites started including blog pages on their sites, which users loved and took full advantage. And, like Yahoo message boards, there were those who trolled.

Eventually, sites like Facebook or LinkdIn came about. People can create their page, but the great thing about these sites, don't have to put up with the harassment of trolls because trolls cannot get onto their page in order to harass. So, with sites like that, the dating sites, with their blog pages, have been taking quite a hit in the numbers of people using their sites. Why use a blog page on a site where a troll can stalk and harass when one can go to face book and get away from it.

Point in this some are wondering. Easy..as RJ pointed out, change happens. What is happening here at AMD has NOTHING to do with the antics of Cocktail, and everything to do with the ever changing face of social media. Did Cocktail really run anyone off? Maybe. I mean, some did get fed up with his antics. I get fed up with his antics, and freely admit to it. I find his stalking and name calling to be immature and quite moronic. His cheap shots at something he doesn't understand, just shows me he is a hateful and vengeful person. Pity for him? Hell no. I have stated quite openly on here before that him wanting to be on the site is no big deal to me. I could care less. Like the rest of us, he has the right to be here, to blog and find a hook up or special someone, that is what this site is for. But, he, as well as the rest of us, DO NOT have the right to stalk after and harass others. And this whole "us verses him" nonsense...it needs to stop. It's ridiculous. I'm not saying don't stand up for yourself if attacked, but, don't stoop down to the level of the attacker either. There is a "report abuse" button, use it. I will for the most part ignore that which does not interest me, I will not sit here and post demeaning comments to the author of a blog or make a comment aimed at another member just to be a bitch. It's stupid and it's childish.

AMD's glory days are gone. It is barely hanging in here due to the newer mediums out there that people are using more so than what is here. It has nothing to do with Cocktail "running off" anyone. It is called "change". And that is what happened here, change.

The good thing about the BBC boards was that it was local and a good way for new people in the area to make friends, Once a month everyone would get together at someone's house or a place called Big Daddy's and have a party, That was great in a military town where people were always moving into the area, I think the nice thing but also the problem with the internet is usually you live thousands of miles from the people you meet, Nice you get to meet these people but bad that they are so far away that it inhibits any social interaction,

We had some flame wars on the boards too that ended up in some physical fights at the monthly get togethers, I always say on the first day they invented the modem on the second day there was a scammer, a troll and someone whining they could not get laid,
