I remember my mom used to love that phrase. I hated it. It meant that the days of being out and playing all day and riding my bike all day were coming to an end. That I would be spending a good chunk of the day in a classroom when I'd rather be outside playing. I wonder today how many kids out there feel that way also.
And in today's world, even in the elementary schools, kids are learning on computers. Pretty cool if you ask me. Although I was surprised when my then 10 yr old nephew (he's 17 now) saw me write my name in cursive and asked "how did you do that?" and I asked him if they hadn't taught him cursive writing yet. He didn't know what cursive writing was. Somewhere along the line, the schools have stopped teaching it I guess. Both my niece and my nephew know it because my sister has taught them it herself. Which is scary cause her writing is not so easy to read.
Today, the kids are learning things on the computers that we have to go out and learn on our own. Programs like Access, Outlook, yeah, the whole Microsoft Office programs. Power Point is actually pretty cool, I love that program. You can choose backgrounds, adjust them, put in your own captions, choose different font styles, and colors. Those programs are not all that hard to learn if one is patient and takes the time to explore them on their own. Don't even need a book.
So, it's back to school time. Which means Thanksgiving isn't too far away, and then Christmas. And this year, I'm going to try to get my Christmas shopping done early. I managed to do it last year. So let's see if I can do so two years in a row. Which reminds me, before too long, I'd better get the tires on the car rotated, get the newer ones on the front for winter driving. I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to winter, I kind of look forward to it because for some reason, I always love that first snow. In reality, I love watching it snow, it's relaxing. Until I remember I'm the one who has to dig out my driveway if it snows enough. That's not so fun. I know, I bitch about winter, usually by February, I'm done with it. I get tired of the closed up feeling of windows being closed. And if it's been a real snowy winter, I'm seriously done with digging out the driveway. Why don't I get a snow thrower? Because, I get more exercise from shoveling. And I get the benefit of all of that cold air.......and yes, that is a little bit of sarcastic humor there.
Well, soon it's back to school for the kids, and all the fun holidays. Ever notice the more fun holidays are when the weather is cold?
