Lets be honest here, the only reason the democrat party wants all the illegal immigrants covered in an amnesty plan is for their votes.

Okay, you want amnesty covering all these illegals? Fine, but the catch is they're not able to vote once they become U.S. citizens until 20 years after they become one.

You want a fast track to becoming a U.S. citizen, that's part of the price. I think that's fair, especially since a lot of respectful illegal immigrants have taken it upon themselves to do it right after years of waiting.

Unless you are Native American you come from someone who came here to try to have a better life in the last few hundred years, We are a nation of immigrants many who came here under dubious conditions from Europe, They did not all enter this country with the proper papers even then, When the Italians came no one wanted them,,, when the Irish came people sure as hell did not want to let them into the country, Now they are just a part of American society, A hundred years from no one will remember what all the carrying on was about way back then, Now the Native American half of me would not mind sending all you people back to where you came from but the practical side of me would have a hard time figuring out how to deport half of myself, I just find the whole immigration thing a bit hypocritical since many of these people coming in from Mexico are not even Hispanic and are mixed with the native tribes who have been crossing over that border for thousands of years being told they can no longer do it by someone whose family has only been over here for a couple of generations,

This symbol of freedom and hope was presented by the people of France to the people of the United States in 1886 in honor of the friendship between the two nations. Yet, the Statue belongs to all people. Her message is universal, speaking to the hearts of those who cherish freedom everywhere

Immortalized in the poem of Emma Lazarus, the Statue speaks eternally the words of compassion: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." These words from the "The New Colossus," written in 1883, appear on the Statue's pedestal.

France hates Americans and has one of the largest population of Muslims in Europe. Screw the tired, the poor and the huddled masses unless you want to become one of them. Tighten our immigration policy, our open door policy to our Educational system and march the huddled masses 'quick step' back across our borders.

Isolationism? Nope. A withdrawal from the global hemisphere? Impossible. Economic chaos? Obama's got that one. The abolition of a Free Trading Market system? Already lost it, we're importers, not exporters. Abandonment of the basic principles of supply and demand on a world wide scale? We're not a free market society anymore. Goods and services don't move according to the laws of supply and demand. Privatization is becoming obsolete as government grows larger. Deficits....print more money, expand the monetary supply and subsequently increase inflation. Any end in sight? Nope. Not as long as we remain an entitlement society and that incompetent fool is in the palace.

Has anybody seen him lately? Anywhere? The View, Jimmy Fallon, Letterman, Hollywood, (still playing golf though), Speeches before the Armed Forces who obviously are required to attend? Where is Houdini?

Lets be honest here, the only reason the democrat party wants all the illegal immigrants covered in an amnesty plan is for their votes.

Except that the Obama administration has deported record numbers of illegal immigrants.

Washington Times Article

The hypocrisy on immigration sits squarely on the GOP. On the one hand, the GOP has used the issue to energize the far right at election time. On the other, it has to allow cheap labor across the border to keep business interests happy.

The fly in the ointment is that they're running out of old right wingers, and they can no longer win national elections without a larger share of latino voters. As a result, the GOP is engaged in a struggle with itself on the issue of immigration.

On one side you have the pragmatists who know they will continue to lose if they demagogue this issue, and on the other you have Congressional reps with safe seats in conservative districts who continue to use it to motivate the base. It'll be interesting to see who wins.

Okay, you want amnesty covering all these illegals? Fine, but the catch is they're not able to vote once they become U.S. citizens until 20 years after they become one.

Not sure how you could do that without an amendment to the Constitution. But in any case, if the GOP insisted on that, you can bet they'll lose the votes of legal latino citizens for years to come.

Now, that is a very unique concept that I have never heard of. But, it doesn't have a snowball's chance of being embraced by very many people. I am certainly not a legal scholar, but I'm virtually certain that it would be totally unconstitutional.

I just ask that they have to go through the same procedure MY parents went through when they came here meaning they have to have a sponsor and be self sufficient and pass a medical screening among other things.

This 'we are all immigrants so we have to let them in' crap is nonsense. We are a Nation and have the right to decide who gets to come here and that those we let in aren't a burden to the country.

I agree - we are under no obligation to let people come to this country. But we do, generation after generation, and it's proven to be our strength.

Here's the reality. Our labor force is rapidly shrinking. Millions of Americans reach retirement age every year, and with our declining birth rate, they aren't being replaced at the same rate.

That creates two problems. A labor shortage, which will become apparent in the next few years, and a shortage of people paying into Social Security, creating a fundamental demographic imbalance. And the solution to both problems lies in having a sensible policy that allows for replenishing our workforce with legal immigration.

It's not new. America has turned to immigration as a means of rejuvenating itself for our entire history. When we needed people to homestead vast new areas in the midwest and great plains in the early to mid 19th century, we turned to immigration. When we needed workers to industrialize in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, we turned to immigration. It's our strength, not our weakness.

I agree with Twistandshout. I want to ask a simple question to make a point. When you need medical care, especially requiring a specialist, what percentage of the doctors that you see were born in the US and why

That alone would be in direct conflict of both the 15th and 19th Amendments in the U.S. Constitution and the U.S. Supreme Court would have it declared so real fast.

I'm all for people having the opportunity to better their lives. I don't agree with closing our borders. BUT, I don't agree with those coming over illegally and then getting a free ride on the taxpayer's dime either. Like thenewguy said:

As for Democrats granting amnesty to get the votes....the GOP is embracing Rubio for the same reason. To get the Latino vote. It's a game in politics, each party plays up what their followers want in order to get the vote. All political parties are guilty of it. And all do the same thing once they get elected, they repay favors to the money holders who lined their pockets. Honesty in D.C. is as rare as the saber tooth tiger is alive today.

Fear of immigration in America isn't new. As early as the 1840's, fierce anti-immigrant sentiment was growing against increasing numbers of German and Irish. There was particular fear that the increase in the number of Catholics would result in too many Americans being more loyal to Rome than to their new country. This resulted in the formation of the Know Nothing movement.

Know Nothing Party

America essentially had an open immigration policy for its first 100 years. If you could get here, you got in. And like now, there were many who feared anything that differed from their own experience.

totally unconstitutional
That's pretty rich considering your Obama and top dems hasn't respected and followed the constitution over the last few years with some of their actions.

Native American
Yeah, I knew you were going to post a comment about native Americans. When the European settlers settled onto this great land, there was no nation. Just sporadic Indian tribes scattered here and there over great land mass. These tribes also didn't have to support illegals like we do as a nation today either.

Did I mention that I love the Columbus Day holiday?

Except that the Obama administration has deported record numbers of illegal immigrants
Only last year when numbers had fallen off the year before. However, that doesn't change the fact that Obama wants illegals amnesty so that they can keep his ass and other dems in power.

It may be one of our strengths, but it's also one of our weaknesses.

You want to see medical healthcare under this Obamacare worsen, continue to watch in the next couple of years.

No doubt about that. Sometimes you got to fight fire with fire unfortunately. Amazing how some people can see through the GOP's tactics, but can't for the life of them see what dems tactics are all about, or turn a blind eye to it.

open immigration policy
Europe has tried this the last 25 years I believe, and realize that's it's not what they thought it would be. They're sorry they even attempted this.

What is unfortunate is the blind loyalty of people to the party they support as if the party can do no wrong. That is hurting this country. This whole "us v them" mentality that is fueled by the media..and that includes Fox News and MSNBC, to name a couple. Neither one is "innocent" when it comes to fanning the flames of political hostility. And it's sickening. It's sickening to sit and see people spat out "libs" or "neo con" at each other as an insult.

Think of this saying:

"United we stand, divided we fall."

Both Democrats and Republicans are the biggest lying, manipulative assholes around. Neither party deserves to be in power because they are corrupt assholes. When we, the voters finally open our eyes to that truth, and start looking to candidates who do care...maybe this country can recover.

No, I have no respect at all for any of those who are in D.C. right now. Not one of those people up there would know the truth of life out here if it kicked them in the ass.

Oh, don't get me wrong, my Republican party makes mistakes and I'm one of the first to criticize them for it. My party has been wrong on things over the years, and I won't make excuses for them unless I think they're getting blamed over stupid and silly things.

"United we stand, divided we fall."
There's nothing to stand for today it seems. We are divided as a nation, that's a true fact.

You state that all in D.C. are lying, cheating, corrupt assholes. I don't agree with that statement. I'm sure there are a few there on both sides that are good, honest, and hardworking people trying to help this country get back on track. With a few that are good, you don't throw them all out like bathwater.
sugarnspice005

May 11 @ 11:27PM
You are wrong, there is something to stand for:

This is our country. Our responsibility. We need to pay more attention to what is going on behind the scenes, and not what the media wants to show us. I watch news reports on politics with an open mind.

I will agree with you, there probably are some good, decent people in both parties in D.C., it's a shame that no one wants to pay attention to them. I wish the majority of our elected officials were good, decent people. But they're not. And until we the people are ready to reclaim our country, what we have is what will continue to be.

I just get so tired of the back and forth and finger pointing and majority of them up there not wanting to accept responsibility for their part in this mess. If they would stop the bitching and bickering and actually sit down with each other and work on the things both sides can agree on...maybe something constructive can be accomplished. I have not seen either side doing that in a long time.

May 12 @ 12:41AM
No, I'm not wrong. That's my opinion about this country today, made worse with Obama! Do I think it's too late to save this country, no, but time is running out.

I think being too cynical doesn't help matters, and I see a lot of that in people today.

As far as blaming politicians, not all is their fault. Half the people vote rotten ones in, so there's plenty of blame to go around.

I agree on both counts. Anyone who watches EITHER Fox News or MSNBC (or who reads Restate.org or Daily Kos) as a source of news isn't interested in getting real information. They just want to wallow in what they already believe.

And the selective gathering of news from sources that tell you what you want to hear is largely responsible for the intolerance and name calling, which is really damaging to a healthy public dialog.

Make no mistake. I'm a liberal, I generally believe in a more active government role in building infrastructure and allocating resources. However, I also get that we're a closely divided country and that those who believe otherwise aren't evil or stupid. We just disagree.

I'll never understand why people post "in your face" political blogs that ridicule the opposing viewpoint in the first place. Those who post them will tell you that they merely want to start a discussion, but as soon as anyone disagrees they get thin-skinned, angry and insulting.

Why not recognize that people disagree, that you're not likely to change their mind by posting an intensely partisan blog that insults the viewpoint of anyone who disagrees, and that by so doing you're simply guaranteeing that others will defend their views.

Believe what you choose, and recognize that others will believe what they choose.

Another BS statement! Fox may lean to the right, but they report everything and are more accurate in their reporting than other news outlets are. No cherry picking from them. I have seen them go after both parties in their news division, something you won't see with CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post, L.A. Times, CBS, ABC, etc...

That comment has absolutely nothing to do with your concept being unconstitutional based upon multiple amendments. What does Obama have to do with your proposed concept? Hell, what does anybody have to do with your proposed concept besides you I don't think that Bachman, Palin, or any pea brain, tea sipping, political figure would think that concept is valid and doable
