Should affirmative action continue in the workplace, or should it finally be thrown aside to allow qualified people to be hired on their own merits?

I feel that affirmative action needs to be tossed. The best qualified person should be hired on their own merits regardless of race and gender.

I totally, 100% agree with that statement, but unfortunately, there are still those out there who are racist, and still use gender, color, and age as factors, even though there are laws against that.

Tossed out all together? No. Maybe revise it, but people still need protection. It's an unfortunate truth out there.

That is tough and there is another dimension, hiring foreigners on work visas. I would say it should be a case by case determination. I am not too big on rigid one size fits all policies.

until there is truly equality in ALL the states it will be needed, I know in this state it is really needed as you have many people still living somewhere in the 1950s with an out of date viewpoint on equality, If you are woman or a minority there is a pretty good chance you will not be given an equal chance in the job market and that is with affirmative action. I can only imagine what would happen without it,

Unfortunately when they created affirmative action they didn't create an exit strategy, nor any way of measuring if it was having the desired effect, there are no milestones to reach that would signal it is no longer needed and no way of evaluating if it is a failure and should be scrapped.

From the gov't's point of view it is a success as it never has to end.

I totally agree and some may remember, I suggested a few times, that we totally scrap our election process for candidates bidding for what ever office they're campaigning for, and go strictly by a resume of accomplishments (merit) working with the citizens in their political career. They have to have held a political office for a minimum of four terms for VP/President! No unknown pop ups like Jimmy Carter or Obama! They must be open to background scrutiny, like it or not!

For first time office campaigners, a resume of their accomplishments in business, owning a business or what they have done in the past, to show that they would be qualified for an office! They also must be open to background scrutiny, like it or not!

All this gets put out into all the news medias so all can read the resumes and then, we all can make intelligent voting decisions. No "he's cute, looks like a father figure, he's a catholic, he's a liberal or a conservative"- none of that crap!

Just my 2ยข worth and then I may have change coming back!

Affirmative action will not go away until white males are the minority. Then watch how fast it disappears. It should have always been, and should always be, the best person for the job gets it regardless of color or anything else
