With the White House’s full blessing, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is attempting to ram through another massive tax increase on the backs of American consumers who shop on the Internet.

And he’s doing it RIGHT NOW -- under the noses of every American!

Inappropriately titled the Marketplace Fairness Act
(S. 743), this legislation would mandate that online businesses collect sales taxes for all of America’s estimated 9,600 state and local taxing authorities!

The complexity to comply would raise consumer costs, while small and medium-sized businesses scramble to keep track of thousands of different tax codes to conduct business via the Web. This legislation also would empower bureaucrats to audit businesses that don’t comply -- levying stiff penalties and interest on top of the tax bill!

Concern and complexity could force businesses to stop selling out of state, stunting growth and driving down the economy even further!

Informed Americans aren’t buying this latest lie coming from Washington -- that the Marketplace Fairness Act will somehow "level the playing field" for big business, while recouping lost tax revenues for individual states. A recent Zogby poll suggests that, by a margin of two-to-one, Americans oppose the “Internet Sales Tax.”

Small-business owners also dislike the plan because it forces them to shift their focus from innovation and growth to complying with complicated tax codes in each of the 46 states with sales tax.

+ + Oppose The "Internet Sales Tax"

Our Capitol Hill contact says Sen. Reid is aggressively pushing this bill forward. In fact, The Washington Times reports that he “completely skipped the committee process, where tough questions may have been asked.”

Like other administration policies, a train wreck on the way. An extremely regressive tax that will disproportionately affect the lower and middle class. And I thought the democrats were not going to raise taxes on the middle class?

Yeah, been following some of this stuff the past couple of days.

Leave it to liberals to continue to tax and spend other peoples money.

Of course people who have nothing and don't have to pay taxes are happy with these liberals in power.

America is dying.

All that you have said, I agree with! But, politicians don't care about all that, they just want whatever revenue they can extort from the population and screw small businesses! IMO, I'm pretty sure this kind of legislation is going to hit a brick wall. Too many large and small companies depend on internet awareness, for their businesses. This isn't just about 'brick & mortar' businesses, it's about almost ALL businesses!

The pinhead Harry Reid, needs to go!! He is detrimental to our nation's health and wealth!!

I expect the administration to recommend (and be introduced by the likes of Reid) a tax on taxes.
