Inadvertent Assassin posted 3/10/2013 11:23:22 AM | 0 kudos what's this?     report abuse   Wordsofwit When I was in the middle of the DFW urban sprawl I had a pellet gun and I really used to enjoy shooting it. What I would do is stack soda/beer cans filled with water against the back fence. I would configure them in a pyramid 5/4/3/2/1. From about forty feet away, I would play my game. The idea was to make every shot but only knock off the cans in the pyramid that I hit. This is harder than it sounds. What happens when you hit a water filled can is that the impact pushes the water back and while a lot goes out of the opening at the top, much of the water rebounds off the back of the can and the force sends it surging forward causing the can to jump (the surge splits the can vertically at the point of impact). Gee, in rereading this it sounds so damned analytical in an anal retentive way Anyway it was really cool to get the rush of seeing one on the top jump up and flip end over end. One day there was a knock and a policeman at my door. I guess I had missed and a pellet went between the slats of my wooden fence, passed through the chain link fence of my neighbor behind me and almost inadvertently picked off their cat. The neighbor thought I was trying to assassinate kitty I took the cop out back and explained it all to him. 	He accepted my explanation but informed me that there was a city ordinance against discharging even a BB gun within the city limits and it carried a $500.00 fine If you take BB guns away from law-abiding citizens, only kitty killers will have BB guns. Or put differently, BB guns don't kill kitty cats. WoW does.

	BB guns don't kill kitty cats. WoW does. Actually, a short time later the cat ventured into the backyard and the dog got it. I just put the corpse in the trash and it went to the curb with the rest of the trash the next day. It was definitely a "dog" neighborhood, almost every household had one or more dogs. A cat owner needed to keep their cat indoors or it would rapidly "disappear" if it trespassed onto private property.
