I've cut the cord. No more land line phone. It's done. All gone. My only phone now is my cell phone. But wow, those voice and data plans can be expensive if you don't watch what you're doing!

Oh yeah, I finally got my iPhone. Been wanting one of those since they first came out. It's the iPhone 4, but what the hell...AT&T offered a $500 iPhone 4 for $1 with the activation of a 2 year agreement to an approved data plan, so I went for it. Besides, I got so tired of those "Card Member Services" clowns with their daily phone calls. Yes, the old phone number was on the Do Not Call Registry, but these idiots at CMS are not legit, they are crooks. I mean, come on, first of all, if your credit card carrier is going to offer you a lower interest rate, they will say so on your billing statement, AND, when they call you, they will say they are from your carrier, not call them selves something as vague as "Card Member Services". Besides, when they started calling my old phone number a few years back, I didn't even have a credit card. I got fed up with them and one time I told them to tell me which credit card they were calling on..nope, couldn't do it. See, if you have a credit card, and the bank/credit union that issued it, when they call you, they will tell you they are calling about your Visa or Master Card account ending in....and they will say the numbers.

I've never looked into it, but I'm wondering if the Do Not Call registry applies to wireless also now. I know when it first came out it was only for land line phones. I'll have to look into that. There are so many apps for this phone, that it's almost like being in app heaven (or hell depending on one's outlook on all of the choices ), there's apps for games, music, movies, news, sports, and so on. True, this will be a bit more expensive than just the land line and dsl service, but, I like the idea of having my phone with me so I don't miss any calls, and with this phone, I can keep up with what's in my accounts, I don't have to wait till I'm home to check online, I can check my pay stub on pay day if I'm at work instead of waiting till I'm home to check on the computer. I think my next "toy" is going to be the iPad, I've been wanting that since it came out a few years ago. I gotta a feeling the desk top pc is on it's way out..soon to be replaced with the laptop, which in turn will eventually be replaced by the tablets/iPads.

Today, I was watching an old favorite movie of mine, Halloween. The first one, where Jamie Lee Curtis got her "Scream Queen" nickname. I remember the first time seeing that movie, how it was so scary. Watching it today, the acting was horrible in it. But what got to me was the telephones, the old rotary phones. I have not seen one of those in years. I can remember using them as a kid, and thinking the push button phone was just too cool. And then came the car phones, wow...I remember wanting one of those. And then the first cellular phone, which was bulky as hell. Now, we can fit these phones in our pockets, choose what ringer we want for them, even choose out skins for them. Wonder what Alexander Graham Bell would think of what has become of his invention, the phone if he could see it today?

I don't expect a lot of us from our generation (Gen X) to cut their landlines phones and to just keep their cells. Well, you did anyway. Me, I guess I'm too old fashion when it comes to landline phones.

I'll tell you some of the reasons why I do though. My general area has a very weak signal when it comes to either AT&T and Verizon cell phones. Also, I think we just have an analog signal instead of a digital one. Having an analog signal drains your cell faster than a digital signal I believe. When I did use my cell phone a lot here at my house years ago to make long distance calls, my battery would last just an hour when it was new and fully charged.

My landlines however are very secure, have longer battery time (I have 4 handsets that all came together where each provides up to about 8 hours talk time each, when the batteries are still new.

Cell phones are nice to have when you're out and about, and I still have one for mainly that reason. When I'm vacationing away from home, it's really nice to have a cell. But other than that, I love my landline phones.

I haven't had a land line for almost eight years. Once my son was old enough for a cell phone, I couldn't see any reason to pay for a land line when we each had a cell phone anyway. Don't miss it a bit.

Enjoy your iPhone!

I have a data line for the computer and a cell phone, keeps the cost down and the aggravation of unwanted calls has almost stopped, i have a great plan on a prepaid phone where it is 45 for unlimited everything,

I only have a house phone because it was a package deal with my internet 'n tv. I use it more than my cell. I use my cell mostly for when I get out and about now.

And yes, you can get on the 'no call' list with both but that's no guarantee you still won't get unwanted calls...you just don't get as many.
