Of a blog I wrote a long time ago. It still applies today.
Let me draw you a verbal picture...
AMD is like a realtor who owns property...in this case, AMD. The 'residents' here are renters, some pay, some take a free ride. Makes no difference either way, their rules apply to all. Anyway, I am a renter.
As a renter/resident, AMD gives me the freedom to apply my own rules to what is 'my home'. When you come to my home, I expect respect. Once you walk through my door, you're on my property and I have the right to choose who can be here and who cannot.
I also reserve the right to make my own decisions as to who is being disrespectful. What others may see as simply personal opinions left inside my home, I, alone, make the final decision as to whether those opinions are made in a respectful way or not. My home, my call.
My 'home' sits in the middle of a neighborhood, a community and the sidewalk passes my home, it does not stop at my doorstep so therefore, anyone can simply bypass my home without stopping if they know they don't like my rules of entry.
I haven't the right to set rules for other's homes and no one has the right to set rules for mine. I am me so like it or not, my rules, no matter whether they meet others approval or not, they will be enforced at my discretion.
If that means not allowing someone entry or kicking them to the curb, then so be it.
Do you really think I'd let someone come into my REAL home and assault me with snide remarks? Do you think I'd just stand by and let them make disrespectful insinuations? Or criticize the way I live or keep my home? NOT!!!
And please...don't give me the spiel of freedom of speech. When you walk through the door of my home, that freedom goes right out the window. There is a difference between freedom and liberty...you may have the freedom, but you don't always have the liberty.
One of the meanings of liberty, according to my dictionary is: a too free or impertinent action or attitude. Another is: to deal inaccurately with facts, data, ect.
In other words, you may have the freedom, but trust me, when you enter my home...be it my real home or my AMD home, you lose the liberty to say whatever you want in whatever way you want to say it. That's just the way it is.
Again, the sidewalk doesn't end at my door. If these rules I've set for my home are distasteful to you then keep on going. You have the freedom to do so but your liberty to behave however you choose is lost the moment you cross my threshold.
That's just the way it is...my house, my rules and I reserve the right to make the judgement on the behavior of those who enter here.
And that's the way it is.
I resurrect this subject for those who may have missed it the first time or simply need a reminder.
