Kids can come up with some pretty interesting ways to pass their days. Whether it be riding their bikes or skateboards, to hanging out with friends and playing games.....I'm sure there are still kids today that know how to do that. That they aren't all couch potatoes on video games or computers all day. Right?

Anyway, I got to thinking about this after a co worker and I were talking about some of the not so bright things each of us had done as kids. I can still remember being 6 yrs old, and my middle sister was 4yrs old, and we were playing in our room upstairs. Mom was downstairs talking on the phone to Grandma. My sister and I were playing with toy animals, pretending to be the coyote and road runner. I'm sure we all remember Wylie Coyote and Road Runner....right? Anyway, somewhere along the game, my sister and I got the bright idea that we were going to imitate Wylie's "fall" from cliffs via the upstairs window. It was just low enough to the floor that we could scoot a toy table of ours to it, climb out, hand from the sill, and free fall. The landing wasn't bad at all..didn't get hurt. That is, till Mom came running around the corner of the house. At first we were like "see what we did Mom!!!!" We were proud of our selves, we got to be like the coyote on road runner. That euphoria ended real quick when Mom, after being sure there were no broken bones, proceeded to warm our backsides, all the while telling us to NEVER, EVER scare her like that again! Needless to say, we never pulled that stunt again.

Then there was the time I saw my Dad coming out from under the house. I found that to be quite interesting. So, one day, my sister (same one) and I were playing in the backyard, and I decided to check things out under the house. So we both crawled under the house. And OMG.....the toads!! They were all over! It was kid's delight! (unless of course one doesn't like toads. ) and we were having a blast catching and collecting toads. And we heard Mom calling for us, we tried to keep quiet...but, she eventually looked under the house and saw us. Told us in no uncertain terms (I was amazed at her use of those bad words! ) to get out of there. To which we said "we're not ready to". And her reply was, "Fine! Your father can deal with you when he gets home!" Well hell, we figured we had it made! We were in bed sleeping when Dad got out of work! Not too long after that, we heard both of our full names...and the command to "get your asses out of there now before I come in after you!"...that wasn't Mom.....that was Dad! Surprise was on us that he came home early that day! Yes, we came out right away...we knew he would come in after us! And we got grounded in our room for a while.

I can remember Mom always bemoaning, "I had all girls, and you would think at least ONE of them would act like a girl!" Yep, my sisters and I were always running around in the fields catching snakes, spiders, any of the creepy crawlers that Mom didn't particularly care for. She said she was so happy when we finally grew out of that and she didn't have to see that in her house anymore.

You know....Mom likes to point to the grey hair she has and say that my sisters and I put each and every one of them there. I like to tell her we didn't.
