Fire in the neighborhood!! Fire in the neighborhood!!
Ah, the smell of wood smoke Roasted weiners and a moon peeking through the leaves. The burn ban has been lifted!!!
Life is good. Summer has been trying, for sure but it's beginning to wane. There'll be more hot spells but the end is in sight. Dreaded winter looms ever closer but oh to have those sweet days of Autumn between now and then.
The forest beyond my window will soon explode to burn like fire against the sunset. The creek that divides my backyard sings merrily as the recent rains have once again filled it full. Baby minnows flit and leap with joy. Bullfrogs in the rushes rumble in unison and the air is full of night sounds.
My garden revived with the rains. Not so much to harvest this year...wisdom prevailed this year to cut back to only what I can eat...and give away. Raspberries in the forest clearing yielded little but enough for a few pies, some for freezing and some for a bowl with thick cream and only a tad of sugar.
I walked the shadowy paths in the worst heat and felt the coolness. Yet dryness had taken over and I imagined I could hear the soft moaning of death. Even the weeds were wilting and crying for rain.
Now brilliant green has returned to bring fullness to leaves and scrub brush. Tiny flowers are everywhere. I suppose this will be their last hooray as the summer season comes to an end.
That hated Christmas in July is gone yet the things of Christmas will pop up again far sooner than they should. School is just around the corner. Labor Day...summer's last blast is on our doorstep, then the crush of Halloween and the holidays will all jumble together in aisle after aisle to boggle our minds and irritate our senses.
Oh well...such is life. Who can fight it? It is what it is.
And with that, I bid you farewell for now. Tis too much for me to mull over anymore tonight.
May you all sleep well...love hard and be gentle to yourself.
