I had read about his passing yesterday.  I used to love The Jeffersons. Besides George, Florence was one of my favorite characters..she always cracked me up with her remarks to George. 
btw..Marla Gibb, who played Florence, is still alive. Here is what she had to say about Sherman's passing:
"I am shocked, and thought Sherman was doing very well," said Marla Gibb, who played the feisty maid Florence Johnston on the "The Jeffersons." "I am saddened to hear that Sherman has made his transition."
