I turned on CNN this morning, and they've been covering Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee all morning. It was quite interesting to watch. The Queen looked lovely today. As did Prince William and his wife, Kate, and Prince Harry. Prince Charles and Camilla..they looked ok.

I fully understand the interest by those in the UK in this celebration. I often wonder about our fascination with the monarchy here in the States. Is it because of our history, knowing some of our ancestry comes from Britain? I know there are some who will refer to England as "the Mother Land". Or is it because of the long history of being allies? Our media here has a huge fascination with Great Britain and it's monarchy.

Whatever the fascination, I congratulate Queen Elizabeth II on her Diamond Jubilee.

I think we are fascinated because we do not have a royal family of our own. Our presidents come and go and over time tend to fade into the history books. A royal family continues generation after generation and becomes a symbol of the country. American girls are brought up on the stories of the princesses and the British royal family is about as close as we can come to seeing that in real life. I think the keen interest in that family is usually divided by gender with women showing more interest than men.
