This letter was sent to Mr. Rand who is the Executive Director of AARP.

Dear Mr. Rand,

Recently you sent us a letter encouraging us to renew our lapsed membership in AARP by the requested date. I know it is not what you were looking for, but this is the most honest response I can give you. Our gap in coverage is merely a microscopic symptom of the real problem, a deepening lack of faith.

While we have proudly maintained our membership for several years and have long admired the AARP goals and principles, regrettably, we can no longer endorse its abdication of our values. Your letter specifically stated that we can count on AARP to speak up for our rights, yet the voice we hear is not ours.

Your offer of being kept up to date on important issues through DIVIDED WE FAIL presents neither an impartial view nor the one we have come to embrace. We do believe that when two parties agree all the time on everything presented to them, one is probably not necessary. But, when the opinions and long term goals are diametrically opposed, the divorce is imminent. This is the philosophy which spawned our 200 years of government.

Once upon a time, we looked forward to being part of the senior demographic. We also looked to AARP to provide certain benefits and give our voice a power we could not possibly hope to achieve on our own. AARP gave us a sense of belonging which we no longer enjoy. The Socialist politics practiced by the Obama Regime and empowered by AARP serves only to raise the blood pressure my medical insurance strives to contain. Clearly a conflict of interest there!

We do not understand the AARP posture, feel greatly betrayed by the guiding forces that we expected to map out our senior years and leave your ranks with a great sense of regret.

We mitigate that disappointment with the relief of knowing that we are not contributing to the problem anymore by renewing our membership. There are numerous other organizations which offer discounts without threatening our way of life or offending our sensibilities.

This Obama Regime scares the living daylights out of us. Not just for ourselves, but for our proud and bloodstained heritage. But even more importantly for our children and grandchildren .Washington has rendered Soylent Green a prophetic cautionary tale rather than a nonfiction scare tactic.

I have never in my life endorsed any militant or radical groups, yet now I find myself listening to them. I don't have to agree with them to appreciate the fear which birthed their existence. Their borderline insanity presents little more than a balance to the voice of the Socialist Mindset in power. Perhaps I became American by a great stroke of luck in some cosmic uterine lottery, but in my adulthood I CHOOSE to embrace it and nurture the freedoms it represents as well as the responsibilities it requires .

Your website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all communication in Spanish. ARE YOU KIDDING??? The illegal perpetrators have broken into our 'house', invaded our home without our invitation or consent. The President has insisted we keep these illegal perpetrators in comfort and learn the perpetrator's language so we can communicate our reluctant welcome to them.

I checked this out in snopes and it is a real letter, (sorry this PC can't get the URL button to work on AMD).

This blog is only the first three quarters of the letter.

Though quite articulate, it is kind of a rambling rant by shrill kook IMO. The lady would fit right in on the vanilla site.

And as for this letter in this blog, I would have to agree with that person. I have known for some time that AARP has sold out a lot of their members buy their continued support for Obama in my opinion.

People are entitled to their opinions. But I do agree with the writers "frustrations" about illegals in this country. I personally feel if one is here illegally, they shouldn't be rewarded with handouts. Illegal means breaking the law, and people should be punished for breaking the law, not rewarded. With that said, I'm not saying "ship them back to where they came from", but rather, help them take the steps to becoming citizens.

And yet AARP is by far and away the largest senior citizens association in America.

If the right thinks that demonizing mainstream organizations that millions of Americans belong to will help them win elections, hey, I say they should go for it. Or they could listen to Republican pollster Scott Rasmussen, who said the following at CPAC:

"How many of you," Scott Rasmussen asked the crowd at last week's Conservative Political Action Conference, "have ever mocked or made fun of the president's call for hope and change? Raise your hands."

Most people in the Marriott Wardman Park ballroom raised their hands. There were cheers and whoops.

"With all due respect," the conservative pollster and commentator told them, "I'd like to say that's really stupid."

This time, there was uncomfortable laughter. "Voters are looking for hope and change as much today as they were in 2008," Rasmussen explained, and "you ought to be encouraging Republican candidates, people you support, to offer that positive step forward."

As for AARP offering to communicate with members in Spanish, get a clue. They aren't doing it to get a bunch of groundskeepers who are here illegally to join. Illegal aliens aren't going to join AARP.

They're doing it because there are millions of legal American citizens who speak both Spanish and English, but are more comfortable in Spanish because it's their first language. A lot of them (particulary the Cubans) are well off and vote Republican, although the right is doing their best to chase them into the Democratic Party.

My company (which sells high-end financial services products) also advertises in Spanish. Why? Because we think Mexicans who came here illegally want to put $100,000 into an annuity? No. We do it because our market research tells us that a bilingual Hispanic purchaser will choose us over a company that advertises only in English.

In other words, it's good business to accomodate all kinds of customers. AARP gets that. Funny how that's lost on all these supposedly "business savvy" conservatives.
