I'm shocked to have learned that Whitney Houston was found dead. She was 48.

R.I.P.

One of my favorite songs and videos from her.

I read that too! I was going to post a link to the story on her death and thought I'd check the blogs first, before blindly posting it!

That's a real shame! I guess a lot of celebs start living a reckless life, once fame and lots of money appear in the equation!

R.I.P. Whitney Houston!

Though sad, I am not surprised. She was much younger than I thought she was.

I heard about this on the news last night. It's so sad, she had such a pretty voice. I loved listening to her sing. I remember her first song, How Will I Know, and me, being the head banger I was back in the 80's, fell in love with that song. She was one of the best.

RIP Whitney, you will be missed.

cOME ON - DIDN'T YOU EXPECT IT. She has had drug problems for years. Why should we be surprised when another drugged out star bites the dust. Sad, yes - because another life was wasted on drugs. BUT - there are lives wasted every day because of drugs and no one cares about them. SO??? Because she was a "star" we should feel bad? Sorry, I have had family members die of this and they never had the fame and fortune she had. I feel sorry for those who die in the streets and the gutters because they had nothing to begin with. She had the money to get clean, she chose not to do so. And she paid the price.

In our household everyone is already sick of hearing about it. As my son in law said, "She hasn't had a hit record in this century and is just a has been. It is just another dead woman, no big deal."

I don't "celebrate" her life, I can honestly say hers is not a life I would have wanted. Lack of privacy, drug addiction, people "hating" her, etc.....But what I have always liked about, and admired, was her voice. She had a beautiful voice, and I loved listening to her sing. It is her music I celebrate. Bottom line.

Some of her music has touched me through the years.

That's pretty cold, Bruce.

If it was somebody who was celebrity that was still viable and died not as a result of their own lifestyle choices, I would have more empathy

Then by that logic, you shouldn't have cared when Presley, Hendrix, Bonham, Morrison or any other rock star died by the same choices. They were all talented and threw their lives away on drugs. I just think since she wasn't in your genre of choice, you didn't care. I think that's why most people tend to make snide remarks like they have. However, if someone like the remaining members of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who or whatever band from the 60s or 70s croaked, you'd be incensed if no one gave a damn.

Anyway, its like Michael Jackson all over again. Same sort of spectacle, same people coming out of the woodwork just to be disrespectful without knowing anything. Given how her remaining years were, she did have an impressive body of work- people seem to forget that. At the end of the day, people also seem to forget this woman was flawed and human like me and you. I figure anyone who has lived a life free of any mistakes whatsoever should come forward...I'll wait.

Chiding aside, I was a fan and I'll never forget her contribution to the music in my life. I hope wherever she is, there's no more pressure, fear or sadness. Goodbye Whitney.

The genre didn't have anything to do with it as much as the fact that she wasn't a force making new music. In the last four years two members of Pink Floyd "croaked" and it didn't bother me as they were no longer factors (the band had retired). As for some of the others you mentioned they were hardly has beens at the time of their deaths.

She released a new album in 2010 or 11 I forget and she has a new movie she made before died along with other projects. She wasn't relevant up until then, let's just admit that. Anyway, despite how her life was up until the end, someone of great talent...in fact, all of them we'll never hear from again.

Did a little looking around, and Whitney's last album was released in 2009, the album was titled "I Look To You", and in the fall of 2009 she embarked on a world tour.

So, Whitney wasn't a "has been". She was still recording, she was still touring, and she had just finished work on the movie, "Sparkle", which was set to be released later this year. And, I think I had heard some of the news reports she had been planning another album. Not too clear on that. So, yeah, she was still out there putting out music, producing, acting, etc. I just found out she had produced a movie my niece liked, Cheetah Girls. And that wasn't all that long ago.

I still find it sad that she is gone. To me, she had one of the most beautiful voices I had ever heard.

I remember her first song, How Will I Know
In my book, this has to be one of her best, if not THE best. It preceded "How Will I Know"
by a year or two. It's more of a torch song than all her other pieces, and very touching.
The above song and "How Will I Know" were my two favorite Whitney Houston tunes.
