Van Halen may still be cagey about whether they will release a new album on Interscope sometime in 2012, but they have announced plans to tour through the year with original frontman David Lee Roth. The band confirmed that they will be hitting the road in a video posted to their website yesterday, but they have not yet announced specific dates. Those dates should be revealed pretty soon, though – tickets for the first wave of shows will go on sale on January 10th.

Van Halen's new album, their first with Roth since 1984, is rumored to be hitting stores sometime in early 2012. Roth previously reunited with his former bandmates for a world tour in 2007 and 2008, and the success of that outing paved the way for this more permanent reunion.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Not only is there a chance that they will have another falling out like they did years ago, but today's music has changed since their glory years. Besides, I don't think they will be able to top their 1984 album that was released New Years Eve 1983. Be kinda cool if they named this album 2012.

Any thoughts?

Their fans from the seventies and eighties don't buy albums and music has changed, so yes, the album will flop. The tour might do okay though, but I doubt that very many people care, I don't. David Lee wears his hair now like Peter Frampton and Andre Agasse... he looks like this

When Van Halen looked hot

Problem is that none of them look like this now so the female fans who liked the music but went to the concerts because they looked hot will be disappointed. Sometimes I think it is best to leave people with the memories of what was.

To be honest I never cared for their music............but Gary sure did...........and so does my daughter............so i am sure she will be excited to hear this..........I just forgot to tell her........

I have to agree with WOW tho, they will never be what they once were and people will be unhappy with the change...........

True, it's not going to be the same for many reasons. I would however like to see them do well though with record sells and the tour.

20, 30 years ago, I would have been in seventh heaven over David Lee Roth being back with Van Halen. Don't get me wrong, I liked them with Hagar also, but I always liked them with Roth more.

New album, I'll wait and see what they release before declaring it a flop. Never know, they may surprise everyone. But if they try for the sound they had back in the 70's and 80's, might not go over too well as, like has been pointed out, music has changed.

My favorite Van Halen song? I've always LOVED Running With the Devil!
