I got a gripe. Nothing unusual; about that, but this has hothing to do with politics, religion, spammers/scammers, or even trolls. Not even my own problems, but something that has gotten my attention on more than one occasion.

I have noticed the poor quality of the poof reading of news stories on the internet. The grammar, the spelling, and over all quality are horrible. Are the news services farming out the copy to people that speak English as a third language? I admit my use of the language gets bad, and I am so thankful for spell check. But I’m not getting paid to produce material that is going to be read by how ever many hundreds of thousands of people every day. Normally I go back and proof read every sentence, and then go over what I have written to see if I can make sense of it. If not, or if I think of a better way to say something, I redo what needs to be done over.

It seems this one little area is somewhat symptomatic of the world, not just our society here in the good ole USA. We seem to be letting poor quality go unaccounted for, or shrug it off as nothing we can do about it.

Ok, i'm done for now, what do you think?

You are quite correct and it is frequent on even major sites like CNN.

I think our news gets sent to India, for proof reading and then sent back here, to be distributed through the media channels- that's what I think!

It's the same level of frustration you experience when a Help line ends up in India while trying to resolve a technical conflict... same thing!

You are right, it is bad. I've been noticing it a lot also. There are articles I've read where I've thought if the instructor I have for document processing were to get a hold of it and grade it, it would have received an F.

something else that gets to me is the originality of some of their headlines too..

some of them can be so lame its almost painful just to read them.

like ; man dies in shocking electrical accident

the town is drowning under floodwaters ... duh how else do anyone drown ..

and another one ; raging bushfires , yeah cos i'm much rather lose my house to a gently flickering smoldering flame..
