What a day. Got home from work a little late, turned on tv to a local ABC station to catch the local news...and saw what I thought was an Indy race that was running longer than predicted, cutting into the news time slot. As I was going about getting things cleaned up...I heard some talk about a 15 car accident on the track. That is HUGE! So I started watching, and realized, this wasn't a typical spin out...this accident was HUGE and as I found out, deadly. I'm not all that familiar with the drivers in the Indy races as I have really been watching it since moving out of my parents house. Anyway, a young man, Dan Wheldon, age 33, was one of the drivers in that crash, and he didn't survive it. In fact, the race never resumed after receiving the news that Wheldon died. Instead, officials and other drivers agreed to do a 5 lap memorial thing for Wheldon.
Crash
It's just sad...he was only 33. Life, we take it for granted until we see/hear of something like this. I know I take it for granted, even after losing friends to crime or accidents, and even a fiance' to suicide. The five lap salute the drivers did for him, that shows that it isn't just about racing, that these people are friends, and they are a "family" of their own.
RIP Mr. Wheldon.
