It’s a good thing no NFL team has hydrangeas as a mascot.

The sports website SB Nation is reporting that Madonna will take to the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show.

The NFL is not commenting, and when reached by EW, Madonna’s rep says there’s “nothing to confirm at this point” — which is about as soft a “no comment” as one gets.

So is it possible? Last month, Ms. Ciccone told reporters while promoting her film W.E. that she’s been recording a new album with producers William Orbit (who helmed her 1998 album Ray of Light) and French DJ Martin Solveig (of the inescapable “Hello”).

The aim was to release a new single in the winter, with the album out Spring, 2012. And you know what’s an excellent way to immediately inject yourself back into the zeitgeist to promote your first album in over three years? Performing for the biggest television audiences in the country.

But is it a good idea? It certainly would be in keeping with Super Bowl halftime tradition of the past few years, which featured the likes of The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, and the Rolling Stones — iconic artists still beloved, but also well past their prime chart-topping days. (We’ll just agree to forget the Black Eyed Peas TRON-ification of the Super Bowl XLV halftime.)

The common thread with all those acts was their real connection with the general football-watching audience; the Madonna-fan/football-fan Venn diagram doesn’t quite have as much overlap.

So, hmm. What do you make of the prospect of Madonna headlining the Super Bowl, Mixers? Do you think it’s a great idea? Or a great idea…for Super Bowl XXVIII?

So, Peeps, do you like this decision, or would you rather have someone else?

Bonus question:

If you don't like Madonna, who would you have liked to have seen do the halftime show?

As for me, I love the thought of Madonna doing the halftime show!

I've never kept it secret that I liked the metal scene from the 80's, and the hair bands, with Motley Crue being my all time favorites back then. But, I've always liked Madonna's songs. And I always liked how she was her own person. Maybe this Superbowl's halftime show will be one of the better ones.

I like the Black Eye Peas, but the sound for their show last Superbowl was pitiful, and that's being nice.

Yes, if I can, I'd tune into halftime to see Madonna performing...then again, if the Lions happen to get that far....I'll definitely be watching.

Madonna is about as washed up as you can get to perform at the halftime show. It's choices like this that have made the halftime show a joke for the past few years now. I'd rather see someone current, even if I didn't really care for their music, perform. The biggest game in the world and you put some old washed up whore right in the center of it

An entertainer, band can still draw live but selling albums is another matter as people over 30 don't usually buy music. I don't feel she is a good choice. How about Hank Williams Jr.

Seriously, as to who I would suggest, I am a bit stymied. I agree that some younger blood is in order. I can't think of anybody in rock who would fit that stood the test of time. That might necessitate somebody in C&W

How about some blues rock out of Texas?

At least then you know they would have a decent show for a change.

I think that you need to have somebody who has been able to headline at a major stadium concert at some point in their careers. That seems to be part of the criteria.

...rnj.... ...but, seriously...I bet some of the soon to be washed up whores in the business would love to have the background Madonna has in the business.

Well, if I had my choice, I'd pick someone like Avenged Sevenfold or Skillet.

As for C&W..the big names right now, who also crossover into the pop scene are Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, and Band Perry.

OMG!!! I REALLY need to stop watching CMT with Dad!!! I'm knowing too many C&W artists!!

Personally..I think that they should split it up...and have something for most everyone!!!
Pleasing everyone...would be impossible!!!

Most of Today's "Country" is yesterdays "Pop"
If I had my choice.....It would be...Miranda Lambert...and Blake Shelton!!!!! They are a lil more on the Country side though......

Ummm Bruce Los Lonely Boys have headlined at stadiums both here and around the world in this century not the last one and also have a grammy to go along with it.

I am just saying get someone who has not been around so long they no longer sound like themselves when they sing. Add a little excitement to the program.

Okay, I've got one that is "new blood" in the sense of not being older than I am, Metallica.

I love Metallica but isn't that kind of 90s? How about some new blood from this century that has been around now for over 11 years?

Well, since Santana only qualified to play before a Super Bowl and I had to pick a genre most people beyond Hispanics could care less about, I'd go with Los Lobos.

I had to pick a genre most people beyond Hispanics could care less abou

I guess that is why every release they have has gone platinum and they sell out everywhere they go in a time when cd sales are lagging? And why they have a grammy as well as a number of other awards?

Sure must be a lot of Mexicans with money out there or else someone else is listening to them.

I really hope she performs at The Superbowl. She really keeps herself together and performs well...even though she is my age. She has done alot of good with her self made millions. She came from a home that wasn't wealthy and more poor than most and made good on her own. Her adoptions shows she cares for others and is willing to give those a chance that would have none. I admire herand she will show the world that age is just a number.
