Any of you remember this 1954 SciFi classic? If you do then you're around my age, maybe a decade or so younger!

It was about huge mutant ants that got that way from the underground nuclear tests we used to have mostly in Nevada back in the early 50s cold war years- you know how Hollywood always likes to sensationalize movies, true or not, mostly NOT!!

Anyway, the link to some info on the SciFi flick THEM!, is in the link below:

The reason I brought this up is I was reminded of that SciFi flick when I read this article today:

Hairy, crazy ants invade from Texas to Miss.

When I lived in Mobile, AL in the 80s, I remember having to deal with fire ants on my property, which tried to make my life miserable if I disturbed their nests. Their nests used to look like miniature volcanoes above ground! I used to poke a hole in the center of their nest entrance down about a foot with a broom handle, pore in some gas, make a 'fuse' with about 4 or 5 feet of rope soaked in gas, with one end placed in the 'cone'.

I would light the rope and stand back! It would go 'WHOOMP' and sit there and burn until the gas soaked ground burned out. Ants never returned to that area and start another one someplace else- so I would do it over again until they just didn't come back in my area anyway!

I remember this movie. In fact that movie was on television not too long ago.

I have the DVD, one of the best of the genre from that era.

I think I may have seen that movie with my Mom when I was little. Mom always loved Sci Fi movies. And I remember watching one with her about gigantic ants attacking people.

I remember the movie in 1954 (I was 10). The first shot was in Illinois with state police . I saw it while visiting relatives in Illinois and it scared the hell out of me, I don't think I slept very much on the rest of the visit.
