Hey... I kinda like this idea- think of all the drama no one has to experience when couples can't stand each other anymore, not to mention the lawyers getting filthy rich off of a couple's failed marriage, mainly due to two lawyers battling it out on... get this... 'behalf of their clients!' What a freak'n joke! Divorce= kaching to lawyers!

I went through two divorces where we used one attorney for the legal proceedings! This was of course, both me and my ex's sitting down and working it out for both of us, before filing and insisted only one lawyer be used! Cost was minimal, property split was fair and virtually no drama.

The contracts would include provisions on how children and property would be handled if the couple splits.

Isn't that what pre nups are for ?

Partly but pre-nups aren't based on a defined period, just if there is a breakup! This is a two year test, if you will, to see if a couple wants to continue their marriage- least that's how I read it!

They should make that 7 years as that is when things usually start to fall apart and eyes start roving elsewhere usually followed by the rest of the person. They could have the two year option out just in case they can't stand each other or there were some things not disclosed or the person lied about things before that person married them. That should be an automatic out anyway.

Wonder how some political parties would react if that was proposed in this country since it seems some of them want to push us back to the early turn of the 20th century.

That would be simpler if all states recognized unmarried partners. Here they can't get into ICU if their partner is in the hospital and I know of an incident or two where the gentleman passed away and his kids came and threw out the lady he had been living with for years pit om the street and it was all legal. Until they change stone age laws in all 50 states then marriage is the only protection people have as couples.

Yep. Was thinking the same thing.

Just wondering...after that first two years, when they renew..do they get to renew every two years?
