I guess it's time for me to at least give a small update on whats happening around here. Not much of anything really. still have to call the niece to get the money from my brother every month, and i'm thinking more and more they are just in it for what they can get for nothing. Not to mention she is either one hell of a bubble brain, or is truly trying to grab everything she can. I could be wrong, but everything I’ve seen up to this point sure does make it look that way.

Also, had a pretty good medical scare this month. Started out with just being real short of breath all the time, then some pain in my lower rib cage, some nights I couldn't even sleep it was so damned bad. Finally, went to the urgent care unit at the VA hospital, got loaded down with drugs, and told I need to quit smoking, again. Any way, I found that me and the inhaler I got don't get along real good. I thought I was having a heart attack one night. And it was because of the albuterol inhaler. So, reduced the usage of that and doing as good as usual now.

The pick up is still broke. Rear ends for that little sucker are pricey up here, if you can find one within 100 miles. So, i'm driving my friends f-350 diesel until I can get my s-10 running. I don't go far, or often, but at least I can get around and take care of what ever errands I have without having to call someone that may or m,ay not be available when I need to do something.

Thankfully, the hot weather is gone, and it's cool enough I don't have to run the a/c or cold enough to run the heaters, so my energy bills are going down, I just have to figure out how i'm going to pay for enough propane this winter. I understand there are some programs that will assit with that, but I haven't checked into them at this point, and if I’m going to eat, I better see what help I can get for sure. And soon.

Life is, as usual, rough, but i'm not the only one going thru some real tight times. I am fortunate tho I retired from the military, so I have some income, and one way or another, i'll get thru it all. Hope everyone else is doing ok, tho I know some are digging out from those last couple of storms that hit out east. I've been thru a couple of hurricanes and I’m familiar with what they can do. Now all I have to worry about is getting snowed in here, again.

Take care ya'll, and play nice. Yeah, right. You realize I said that while biting my tongue.

I am glad to hear from you. I had been wondering. On the social services, the help you need it is out there on food, utilities, etc., but it is usually dispersed, with federal funding, to non profits. To tap into it, call 211. That is the clearing house and point of contact for all of the aid for folks like us in tough times. Also, as a vet, check in with VFW, American Legion, DAV (if you have a service connected disability).

Looks like by age, you're about ready to apply for Social Security that will help you along side your military benefits! I believe the age qualification is 62.5- have you checked into it yet?

I quit smoking last April 15th for a mite over 5 months now! I did it by making it more difficult to light one up (by putting the pack in the garage for ex.) and when I did, I only took about 3 drags, then did what Clinton did (didn't inhale ), then put it out! 15 min to a 1/2 hour later (or when I really felt I wanted one), do the same thing! Soon, It took me about an hour to smoke 1 cig! I got it down to one pack lasting a day, then 2 days, then 3 days for a few weeks, then just quit!

The idea was, if I really needed to have a smoke, I could but doing it the way I did, weaned me off of them! It's a chemical addiction but it's also psychological too! Find things to do too- helps keep your mind off of wanting a cig!

If you finally quit, the 1st week is the toughest- if you can make it through that, you should be able to continue on!

I'm not going to bore you with all the dire warnings about COPD, I'm sure you got all of that from your doctor. But, I will say, if you decide you want to quit smoking, find what works best for you. Som had a good idea that worked for him, I've been smoke free now for 7 years. And yes, that first week is a bitch! Not going to sugar coat that. But, like Som says, if you make it through that, then you will get through the rest.

Glad you popped in. Take care.

best wishes...I have worried about you. I can't quit and deal with an inhaler everyday. It is the stupidest thing I have ever done...smoke that is. I hope better for you, but I am afraid it will kill me.
