It seems like the normal mechanic either don't want to fool with it, squeeze money out of me, or just really doesn't know how to fix it. I'm thinking it's because of the sensor wire connected to the retractor for the tensioner & I'm guessing air bag. Well that's where I stopped taking apart the drivers side seat belt because I don't know much about it. I asked what the labor would be just to swap out the old for the new if I come up with the parts to replace it & of course they want to look at it before they give me an estimate. I told them I had the side panels & most of it removed & stopped on account of the wire.
The dealer said the worst case scenario would be $ 350 but they will not say anything about what the fucking wire is actually for. I called around & it is about 50 to 60 dollars for the retractor & seat belt for one side but most will not sell unless you buy both driver & passenger side because it has to be ordered. Pick Apart places was pretty much a dry run as well. The dealer seems to be the only ones to do it from what literature I've read but the charge seems ridiculous . Realistically is this a dealer issue? Can an everyday mechanic accomplish the task or does he have to be licensed due to air bag shit ? My problem is that I need a legitimate estimate from who I'm confident that can do it right but I can't get honest feed back from any average mechanic to get the ball rolling to get the shit done. Any suggestions?
