Now, a story from long ago and far away. It involves a father who was a rodeo clown, a mother, and me. The location I do not recall, but the essence of the story is still within the few remaining brain cells that function.
It was a hot, dry and dusty day at the rodeo grounds, the old man was off somewhere, and mother had just given me a bath on the tailgate of our pick-up. Thinking I would be perfectly safe while she went to the front to get a towel, she walked to the cab, grabbed the towel, and walked back. Total time, maybe a minute and a half. Being a bit adventurous, even at that age, and maybe 2 years old, if that, as soon as she was out of sight, I got off the tailgate, still wet, and hauled my little ass to parts unknown. And apparently had a ball rolling in the dirt, laughing and just having a great time.
And as I said, this was the back lot of a rodeo, so horses, maybe some cattle, and lots of people all over the place. And here I was, naked as a jay bird, having the time of my life undoing the bath I’d just gotten. Mother of course was frantic, and by the time she found me, I was one mud ball, or dust ball, as the outside had dried. So, another bath, but this time, she didn't let me out of her sight.
I always seemed to find some way to get in trouble, this is just one that came to mind after reading another blog this morning about what happened to twin boys.. Very tragic, but, children have no sense, and where they want to go, they will, if they can get there. Danger is an unknown concept.
Then there was another link about what happens all too frequently in hot weather. 3 kids left in a car with the windows rolled up, in the heat. All three suffered brain damage, and the woman’s' attorney is saying she didn't meant to harm them, so is not to blame for it. And shouldn't be punished. Bullllllll shit. If this is one way of getting rid of one stupid gene from the pool, give her the max. All 270 years, without parole.
Ok, I went off the deep end again, and this was supposed to be something funny, but dammit, young kids need to be watched over, not left alone, or at least find a way to try to protect them from themselves if you have to make a head call.
