It's June 28 already. Year is already half over. Summer has just begun, of course here in Michigan, the weather is "confused". Supposed to be near 80 today, and here it is, 5:30p.m., and it's only 64 degrees! Yesterday was pleasant, this is what I think of today's weather:

My classes for Spring semester ended today. Looks like I'm holding a strong A in both of them! Now I just finish out this week with work, and I get the 4th thru the 10th off...with 40 hours paid vacation time. My dogs are going to be BEGGING for ME to go back to work! No, I'm not going anywhere on my week off, I don't know anyone insane enough or brave enough to stay here with my dogs for that time. True, Dad is the only one in the family brave enough to come around the dogs once in a while...he can only tolerate Buddy barking for so long you know. Don't get me wrong, with me, they are pretty well behaved, but with someone else, not so well behaved. They know who feeds them and takes care of them. They also know I won't take any of their b.s. either. So, I'll stay home with them. Monday, the 4th, my sister and I will be meeting up with our best friend and her two sons and catching the fireworks here in Saginaw. It's been a while since I've been able to actually go to the show. The last 9 years I've had to work, and I would stand outside at my parents house and watch them from the distance. This year, yeah, gonna be right there to see it all and hear all the bangs! Mom told me she never liked the "kabooms", they scared her. But, every year as my sisters and I were growing up, she was with Dad and us kids at the shows.

The 4th of July is one of those family memories I've always enjoyed. Mom always popped up enough popcorn to halfway fill a paper grocery bag, (had to leave enough room to shake the salt and butter in ya know), Dad always bought packs of sparklers for us kids, and he would pack his little 5 inch tv in the van to plug in and watch whatever it was he would watch...of course, when the fireworks started, it was Dad outside with us kids and Mom would be in the van watching whatever on the little tv. We would meet up with aunts and uncles and cousins from Dad's side of the family. The adults would be chatting and us kids would be running around with our sparklers just having a blast with other kids at the show. And it always seemed like it was hot on the 4th back then. Could be all the running around we did. And just as dusk was settling in, and just before the first firework would light up the sky, the Mom's would have us kids sit down long enough to have a sandwich. By the time that feat was accomplished, the first firework would light the sky, and Dad would help my sisters and I get on the roof of the van, and he would climb up and sit up there with us. Always had his can of beer...Pabst Blue Ribbon. And he would sit up there with us through the whole show. Mom would occasionally come out of the van and hand him up a fresh beer. (Ya wasn't till I was in my teens that I fully realized my parents used to party when I was younger! ) And Mom would hand up that popcorn for us kids.

Then came the "fun" getting home. What is normally a 10 minute drive would turn into and hour long wait to even get to the road! By then, my sisters and I were tired, and Mom would just fold out the bed in the back of the van for us and we would crash right out. I look back at those days, and they are memories I will always cherish.

And I enjoy making new ones with my niece and nephew. One year we went to the Midland fireworks, (yes Bruce, there is a Midland here in Michigan too! ) and my niece was only 2 years old at the time. The fireworks there were so...........................................................boring that my 2yr old niece was standing there going at them. We took her to the Saginaw fireworks the following year and she LOVED them!

This year, yeah, I'll be enjoying the fireworks. Darned weather better get it's act together as I don't want to be chilled while trying to enjoy the show!

and it's only 64 degrees!

Hey, Dawn, I'll trade ya my weather we're having today here in southern Ohio for your weather. It's sunny and in the 80's. Not too mention the humidity is a little high.

I hope that you have a very nice July 4th coming up.

I would love some 64 degree weather. I guess I am lucky because my yard is very shaddy. It seems 10 degree cooler in my yard and then I get out in the sun and think...where did that come from.
Ho hum...been at home for 5 days waiting for my knee to heal. I TRIPPED AT WORK AND MY KNEE WENT BACK IN ON ITSELF....opps...capslock...and yes i did one heard me scram GD...and then I was kinda excited to stay home for a bit. Ice helps...and Talulah loves me.
Fireworks are for the 4th of July. Not the month of jUNE AND THEN SOME AS THE KIDS IN MY HOOD...OPPS...caps locking in my hood think all summer is time for explosives...kinda nerve ...well...ready to go back to work...have a great week!
