At approximately 6:30 p.m. this afternoon tornadoes swept through southwestern Missouri, striking the most damage in the city of Joplin. As of a few minutes ago, 37 people have been confirmed dead and responders are finding more every minute.

St. Johns Hospital was struck first with the remains left in flames. It has since been completely evacuated. A Walmart, Walgreens, Dillons Food Store, Home Depot and a Sports store, all full of shoppers on a balmy Sunday afternoon, have been wiped out. Many are trapped in the debris. Entire neighborhoods are gone. Debris from St. Johns Joplin has been found over 70 miles away.

Sadly more storms are building and possibly heading this way as well. Firefighters and first responders from all over the state have been deployed to the area, and Governor Nixon has activated the Army National Guard to the area to assist in the search and rescue efforts.

Please, send up words of prayer to the Diety of your choice. They are appreciated.

Just as I hit post, I heard on the scanner system, another body has been found. That brings the total now to 38. The storm also struck and destroyed the Joplin High School which thankfully was empty. They are currently piling bodies by the road and placing flares by them so that the morgue may locate them. Rescue efforts are hampered by trees and debris in the streets, as well as busted gas and water mains.
Please, please send prayers.

Nthing like being at your front door and watch a tornado pass over your house.

The weather has really been weird this year. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones in the storms.

Everyday we wake we should feel blessed. It is hard to imagine such a disaster, but people are in and around them almost everyday. I will and have been praying for all that have to deal with the loss and devistation.

Heard this on my way home from work today and they said 89 confirmed dead. Such a tragedy. Hopefully whoever survived can help those in need and rebuild what was theirs.

Update.......Confirmed dead stands at 119. Over 2000 homes were destroyed. Many people are still missing. Many businesses including hospitals were completely destroyed. There are estimates that almost 70 percent of the town was severely damaged or destroyed.

National Guard has been activated to deter looting. Fire and Emergency Personnel from across the state have sprung into action and are there helping with the rescue efforts. The aerial videos are absolutely shocking. One of the EMT's from this area was sent home this afternoon to get some rest. He said it's absolutely the worst thing he's ever seen or experienced. They've run out of room at the local morgue and have created a makeshift morgue where the dead have accumulated until there are no more gurneys they are now sitting them in wheel chairs and office chairs and covering them with sheets.

Medical records and xrays have been found over 70 miles away from the hospital that was destroyed. Wind speeds have been estimated at 198 mph.

The Ozarks needs any help they can get folks! Here is the link to the Missouri United Way, they are accepting donations for the victims of this terrible tragedy.
Joplin Missouri Needs Your Help!

I know we're all experiencing hard times right now, but from what I understand there are collection sites for help for the victims popping up in several surrounding states. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
