Last week, it was the nursing-home lobby.
Yesterday, Gov. John Kasich took on - Ohio's "pink" driver's licenses?
The governor, while reviewing some of his early achievements in office, switched gears in mid-speech to call out his newest adversary.
"Oh by the way, we're going to eliminate the pink driver's license, just as a side note," Kasich said while speaking during "Dayton's Legislation Day in Columbus" at the Downtown Athletic Club, drawing laughter. "I just got mine the other day, and it's going."
Asked after his speech whether he was serious about changing the look of Ohio's license - which consists of a dark salmon background at the top and a lighter, pinkish hue for most of the rest of the card - Kasich told reporters that his comment was made "sort of tongue in cheek."
"I just got my ... license the other day, and everybody says, 'Can you change it from pink?'" Kasich said. "And then I looked at it and I went, 'Whoa.' So I think we're thinking about whether we can have a better color.
"I have the authority apparently to do it, so we'll see. We're thinking about it."
Kasich turned 59 Friday and obtained his new license the day before, according to his staff. Under then-Gov. Ted Strickland, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles began phasing in a salmon-colored license in 2009, citing recommendations from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
"The idea was that salmon was a difficult color to reproduce" on a fake license, said Joe Andrews of the Department of Public Safety. "It's difficult, but certainly not impossible.
"We'll take a look at some of the other colors," Andrews continued. "He's the governor, and his name is on every license, so he's definitely allowed to have an opinion. We're certainly going to look into it."
But Geoff Slagle, of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, said salmon is the association's preferred color for a license if the idea is to guard against duplication.
Background color is a part of a broader set of guidelines for licenses crafted by Slagle's association. He said more than 20 states follow the motor vehicle administrators' standard for having a pink background at the top of the license.
"You really can't treat the standards like a buffet and pick and choose or else you end up potentially forfeiting the benefits the standard is trying to achieve," Slagle said. "That's not to say it's impossible to have a secure state license if you follow most of the recommendations. The overall intent of our standard is to protect people."

Personally, I think the Ohio driver license is ugly anyway, and needs to be changed.
What do you think?

What do you think? I don't think it is very important. Now if I lived in Ohio, I wouldn't think it is very important either.

*Just for the record*
I got my driver's license renewed back in Dec. and never really paid much attention to them. So a bit ago I finally pulled them out to see if they were pink, and sure enough they are.

I'd be the first in line for a new one that WASN'T pink! I don't think it's so much the color as it is the design of the Ohio drivers license. No matter what color, it would still be ugly.

JMHO, I have no problem with whatever fugly ways the States come up with. There are so many fake I.D.'s that unsavory people use, I'm all for making their con jobs more difficult. My brother was recently in Louisiana working, and the crew had some downtime. Most went to some casino......and several Latino workers, were turned back at the door from the Security personal, as was claimed their I.D. was not legit. 1 + 1= 2
Too bad, it's not a crime to make and use fake I.D.'s At least in Eric Holders world.

Actually what is the big deal about the color on them? i would think those in government these days would have something more to worry about than what color the driver's license happens to be for their respective state.
