For their young ages I find it amazing that my 13 year old grand daughter likes Elvis. Not that she goes looking for his music, but if something happens to come on from him she is right there listening to it and commenting on how much she likes what he sings.
My 5 year old grand daughter loves, loves, loves Michael Jackson. She does look for his music on youtube and such. She told her mom one day that the beginning of the song Billie Jean is just beautiful and then the rest of it just ROCKS!!. She amazes me with the things she comes up with....
Okay, so I think they both have good taste.....well on some stuff
But I was thinking...and this is where I usually get into trouble.... but...
If you mention Elvis, almost everyone knows who he was and his music... If you mention Michael Jackson, almost everyone knows who he was and his music... Titled the King of Rock and Roll...and the King of Pop... btw, who's the King of Country?
Who is the first singer/musician that comes to your mind if you think about them and their music always being known for years to come? When their music comes on the older people...us in 25 years, .. will know it and the younger people will listen to it. Although they may not go looking for it, or admit to it.

who's the King of Country? I feel pretty safe in saying that title would belong to Hank Williams whose middle name was ironically King. Patsy Cline would be the queen of country music.
Who is the first singer/musician that comes to your mind if you think about them and their music always being known for years to come? Unlike C&W and hip hop, most rock comes from groups not individuals. That being said, the first person who comes to mind is Jimi Hendrix even though he has been dead for over forty years. Of people still alive, only two people come to mind, Eric Clapton and Ozzy Osbourne. Of course, taking your question further and including groups, the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd come to mind.

I'm already old..Does my opinion count ?? Being more of a blues person, without a doubt in my mind, Michael Grimm. He has more soul in his voice than many of the older black icons of the blues. IMHO , of course.

In the soul genre for sheer name recognition, it would be the godfather of soul, James Brown, and the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin. But outside of Respect most people would be hard pressed to name another one of her songs.
Being more of a blues person, without a doubt in my mind, Michael Grimm. I don't see him being more than a flash in the pan. He was a winner on America's Got Talent. It is very difficult for anyone to really make it in blues unless the play a lead guitar (and very well at that) and he just strums accoustic.

Who is the first singer/musician that comes to your mind if you think about them and their music always being known for years to come? The Man in Black himself...Johnny Cash. Even though I like the hard rock/heavy metal....I've always liked Johnny Cash. Grew up listening to his albums. Same with Loretta Lynn.
Rock music.....Definitely Michael Jackson. Then there is Madonna, Led Zepplin, and I've heard kids around here blaring Ozzy too.

A lot of times we have to try to guess what will be popular in the future, but I did come up with another possible person, Bob Dylan.

My 4 year old granddaughter listens to Hendrix, Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton. She has wanted to play the guitar since she was old enough to know what one was and started taking lessons at age 2 1/2. She got her first electric guitar last Christmas and plays it from the time she wakes up until her mom makes her put it down and go to sleep. I think it is pretty amazing that all these people can still inspire young musicians today.
I am sometimes not sure if it is because their talent is so great or the no talent crap that has replaced them on the radio
